Newer wee w/ extras vs cheaper stock wee

I'm looking at 2 different wees and would like some input on how to put a price on extras/farkles. Both bikes have ABS and have similar mileage (<4K).

The newer wee has aftermarket windshield, oem saddlebags, center stand, engine guards, hand guards.

The other wee is 2 years older but $1500 less with about a year left on an extended warranty.

I am going to eventually buy hard saddlebags, but have some soft ones to use in the meantime so I don't put much value on the oem ones especially since I haven't read many good things about them here. Does the oem rack work with the HB Journey bags? If so, then that's a couple hundred there. I could potentially sell the oem bags/rack, and they're better than nothing so maybe $200.

Definitely would buy engine guards and most likely a center stand based upon other threads I've read so that's about $450 for both of those.

I already have a set of oem DL handguards that I used on my SV that I sold so no added value for that.

I'm 5'6" so don't know if I would be experiencing the buffeting issue (thoughts?) commonly mentioned. If I did, I would look into the madstad bracket that is mentioned so I would put a value of $100 on the aftermarket windshield.

Even though one is newer, I'm not sure if that equates to a difference in value since they have similar mileage and the other one has an extended warranty. Thoughts?

So by my simplistic calculations, the extras are valued ~$800, which doesn't come close to the $1,500 difference in price, but there is something to be said for the savings in time of having to install those parts. I'm leaning towards the older one, but wanted a sanity check from those who actually own wees/vees to see if I'm overlooking something or may need to look at this from a different perspective. Thanks from someone who hopes to join the "owners" group soon.

Must be an 07 and an 09?

Color isn't a big deal for me, the plastic is easy to take off and paint if you care that much. I'd still go for the older one.

I can relate. I wanted to upgrade last year to an ABS model from my '04. I was deciding between a new '11 model and an '09. Did all kinds of comparisons on included farkles on the 09s I was looking at. Finally decided on a bare bones 09 (it did have a trunk that I liked). Figure I saved 1500 dollars based on the deals available at the time for the 11s. Used that money for farkles. At 1500 dollars, it was a pretty easy choice. 700 would be a little tougher. Depends on how tight money is and how much you like that white color. You are wise to include install time on the farkles. If you like the centerstand and the crash bars, even more so.

One thing I'd consider is the tires. Where has the older bike been sitting? Even though the miles are the same, has the rubber been affected by the two years in any way that matters (though now that I think about it, I'm still on the original tires on my 09 and it sits out all day at work so I'm not sure there is a real problem here).

You wouldn't be wrong going for either bike.

09 and 11. Thanks for the tip about the plastic/painting, but I think I'll live with whatever color as I would rather be riding than tinkering.

Ironic that I can go months without riding in the winter, and now I feel like I'm having withdrawals because I haven't had a bike for a week.

Supposedly the 09 has been garaged. Both bikes are 2-3 hrs from me so I'm taking the day off tomorrow to check them out plus a new 2012 just for gee whiz--would like a new one but don't want to spend the $ as I have other obligations. I plan to be riding one of them home tomorrow.

just wanted to add my 2 cents, but wouldn't getting the older model result in a lower insurance premium? Given that it was less expensive in the first place. I know I was surprised how cheap my 05 wee was per year.

Ride History
2005 DL 650
1989 TREK 850 Mountain Bike
1974 SCHWINN BANANA SEAT (probably worth more than the wee now, oh well)

That thought crossed my mind so I checked yesterday, and my insurance company said add $70 for the 09 and add $270 for the 11. I didn't have the VIN for thr 09 yesterday but when I called back today it ended up being $100 more vs $70--still cheaper than the 11 which I was told would be the same as a 12. Go figure, but I didn't have a VIN fit the 12 do out might have been more than the 11.

Thanks all for the input. Test rode the 11 and 09 today and saw the 12 in-person, which was definitely too tall. Something didn't "feel/sound"right with the 11. The 09 felt more responsive but was dirtier from sitting around and too much lube on the chain which was on the rim, tire & swingarm. Anyway, picked up the 09 for $5k.

The 3-hr ride home sure helped me get over selling my SV and convinced me that this was truly a better choice if I do start traveling more. The windshield on the 11 was superior but coming from a naked SV, having any screen was a welcome feature, and I can buy a different screen.

Wish I didn't have to work this weekend as the bike needs to be lowered and washed then on to farkelling.

Would post a pic but phone isn't cooperating...maybe this weekend after it gets cleaned.
