Is this a good deal?

I found this bike for sale locally on Craig's List

2007 Suzuki V-Strom DL 1000

I have spoke with the owner who seems like a straight up guy who takes care of his stuff. Says his bottom line is $5,500. I'm planning on looking at it after work tomorrow. He says the bike has no issues other then needing a front tire. I'd be replacing both tires as he has a street tire on the back but no big deal there. What do yall think of the price?

Also saw this one but have not called on it

2007 SUZUKI V-STROM DL1000

Hope to be joining the ranks of Vee Strom owners soon!

In my opinion, the first bike you in your post, considering the farkles it has, is not a bad deal @ $5.5k, if everything checks out in person. You are getting a around $1k in extras with it.

The second one has less miles, but I don't see much in terms of extras. However, tires are newer ;-)

If it were me buying, I would inspect both carefully and most likely pick the bike #1, due to it already having most of the items I would otherwise buy to put on it.

Ride Safe!

Just looked at the 2nd/blue bike. It turns out that it was at a dealer which is misleading as it was listed for sale by owner. Great shape but needs tires. The chain was a little tight which is a turn off. Also the brakes needed bleeding. Big chicken strips on the tires. Obviously not owned by a meticulous rider but i doubt he hurt it in less then 6k miles. It took several tries to get her started. I offered him $4500 cash on the spot but he turned it down. Quite sure he would take $4800

Going to look at the first/black bike now.

First one looks quite nice, useful mods/farkles, fair price.

Thanks for the congrats. Oh and I got him down to $5000. These bikes hold their value quite well compared to other Jap bikes. They certainly hold a higher percentage of their original purchase price then an FZ1. I can tell you that for sure! A little history. I was in the market for a V-Strom a couple of years ago but ended up buying a '04 Yamaha FZ1 instead because I found a nice one for at least $1500 less then a comparable V-Strom.

I have put 23k miles on the Fizzy including two trips from E Tennessee to Utah. Its been an awesome bike and its stupid fast!!! Last tip to Utah I really wanted to get off of the pavement and the Fizzy really wasn't up to that. I also do some camping and shooting locally that requires getting off pavement. I do lots of riding in the twsties too being that i live 30 minutes from the Dragon. I'm thinking that the V will work out very well for me.

I ordered a set of Shinko 705 radials first thing yesterday morning. I took the bike for a quick ride last night on some twisty farm roads where I live. I'm very impressed with how well it corners considering how shot the tires are and that I have not really set up the stock suspension let alone upgrade it. Can't wait to run it thought the dragon with some new shoes!

I'm going to be setting the bike up with some paniers and suspension upgrades to carry the extra load of me and gear for a trip out west.

Marty, be sure to put about 250 miles on those Shinko's before getting too aggressive. They are a little squirrelly when brand new.

hmm I have noticed the the Shinko 009 Raven tires that I on I my FZ1 are extra slick at first too. I usually head to the dragon after mounting a new set of tires. About half way though they are scrubbed in all the way over
