Hi from Norcal, and a price question

Hi all,

First off, thanks for the wealth of information on this forum. I've been lurking and researching here for a while and am convinced that the Wee is the right next bike for me.

I'm partial to ABS bikes, and though I'd prefer to find a nice low-mile used bike I haven't been able to find one and will likely end up purchasing new.

So... what sort of prices are people getting OTD for 2011 650 ABS bikes? My local dealer is quoting MSRP ($8,099) + ~$600 in "fees" + tax/title. He's telling me that the bike is in high demand and he's selling them at this because he can. FWIW- I've bought two previous bikes from this dealer and he's generally been OK to deal with. Not great, but eventually been able to reach good deals. It seems like there's adequate inventory of the bikes. This dealer just sold one off the floor yesterday, and they're getting two more in the next few days, so while they're in demand I don't think there's a shortage of them.

What sort of prices OTD are folks getting on new Wee's- are people getting deals below MSRP, or is the market truly commanding full retail at the moment?

Thanks,
John

I'm also in NorCal and I got the same reply when I asked about price, MSRP plus fees for a total of $9800 OTD. That's $1700 in fees and taxes, ouch! They were willing to discuss pricing on farkles though. Unless I can find a used one I will go back and negotiate to see if we can meet at an agreeable price.

Have fun - Hans

If you could get it for a bit over invoice, that would be one thing, but if they're gonna stick you for full MSRP + countless fees, screw that noise. Just buy used. Took me about 6 weeks to find mine.

Every dealer within 150 miles of here listed the bike at 8099+tax/title, except for one about 2 hours drive. They listed the bike at 7299+tax/title. OTD for 7950.

I gave the two local dealers a chance to "make it not worth driving 2 hours". One wanted 8099+tax/title AND 275 "Freight" charge, putting it at over 9K OTD . The lowest they would go was 8650 OTD.

I went to another local dealer and gave them the same chance to save me the 2 hour drive. Painless. We signed the papers at 7950 OTD  . They said they'd been selling them at MSRP with no trouble (sold one that morning). Surprised they did the deal with me, but not complaining.

Shop around.

Greetings from an ex Willits-ite (or is that ex-Mendocinoan?). Anyway....

Hate to say it but one thing that might keep them from budging much on price right now might be that short-term supplies could dry up on them until things look better over in Japan.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up shopping around all the dealers in the area. My local dealer, whom I've bought two bikes from before, wouldn't budge off of $9,600 OTD. Another dealer quoted me $10,400 OTD! I finally found some dealers willing to be reasonable, and picked up my new '11 Wee ABS on Friday for $8,700 OTD. Been grinning ear-to-ear all weekend riding it. Fantastic bike!

not trying to sound resentful, cause i'm not, but these ppl paying full price must have a 100+K / year job with money to waste . .. . cause there are tons of 2009s with like <5,000 for like 5,500ish.
You could by every single farkle you desire and still come in right around what dealers are charging you OTD and STILL have a practically brand new bike.

I'm hearing the same merde de taureau here in Sacramento. No one seems to want to budge off MSRP + fees + tax. A dealer in LA (knowing I was looking for a deal to fly-and-ride) quoted me $10k OTD, which, even with 8.75% sales tax, is obscene. I didn't realize I was dealing with BMW dealers here (and I ride an R1100R, so I know...)

No one has any leftover 09s, 650 or 1000, around here.

OP or any other NorCal-ers, any suggestions? I'm thinking my best option is to find a used one locally or fly-and-drive for a bike with 7501 miles elsewhere (damn CARB).

JonUSN: if those bikes are out there, I want one, since I neither make over $100k nor have money to waste... but they seem nonexistent here in NorCal.

If you don't want ABS, there are plenty of good bikes with <5,000 miles available on CL. If you want ABS, you'll likely have to buy new. In that case, give Honda-Suzuki of San Mateo a call. That's where I bought from, and they gave me a good deal and treated me well.

You can find in-state ABS bikes on CL, just might take a little while. Be patient. The huge savings are worth it. I saw a new one pop up every week or so. Sometimes not the right color or condition, but give it a month or two and you'll find the right one.

Surprising that so many 07+ bikes on CL are non-ABS, I agree.
