Used Wee Advice

After many months of looking for a decent priced used Wee in my area I finally found one that it is in my price range. I am going to look at the bike tomorrow and potentially taking it to a shop early next week for a professional opinion as to the condition. Before I go look at the bike I was hoping to get some advice on the bike, primarily whether I should avoid it due to the mileage.

It is a 2004 V-Strom 650 with just under 30,000 miles. The seller is supposedly the first owner and used the bike for commuting. According to him it has been garaged kept here in Phoenix since purchased. It has a fair number of accessories and appears to be in very good shape both cosmetically and mechanically.

My main concern, obviously, is the mileage and I guess my question is should I avoid the bike due to this. He is asking $3300 but it has been on the market for a while and I would probably offer $2700 and maybe settle at 3000. Of course all of this depends on inspection of the bike, but does that seem to be a reasonable price for the bike described? And most importantly should I pursue this bike or wait for one with lower mileage and a slightly higher price tag.

Thanks for the help, here is the link to the ad.

30,000 miles *IS* low mileage. One of my friends lives in Phoenix and rides a DL1000 with over 100,000 miles on it. It had 90,000 miles on it 18 months ago when I rode it from Nashville to Phoenix.

No problem with 30k. Bikes last a lot longer than they used to. Check if the 15k service was done , and ask for service records or where it was serviced.

As long at it was ridden semi-regulary I wouldn't be too concerned about the low mileage.

I was interested in the same bike, I'm not quite ready to buy just yet and he didn't take my initial offer. I see the ad is deleted, did you buy it?

Yes I am now a V-Strom owner, officially. After agonizing over the mileage for a couple days I decided to take the plunge. The bike was just in such good shape and he seemed like such a knowledgeable guy I feel like I got a decent deal at $3,000. He also threw in a nice gel seat, a new battery, helped me change the oil and gave me an additional filter, and promised to put together a tool bag from his vast collection of ratchets and the like. All in all I am just happy to be riding again and from the 30 or so miles I've put on it so far I think it will serve me quite well. Thank you for the advice and help, I hope to be a frequent contributer to the forum in the future. Good luck with your search tpullins, if you need any help/advice, not that I know much, feel free to let me know.

It's a shame I wasn't quite ready to buy for another couple months, I think that's a great deal you got. Congrats on the purchase! After reading what kind of mileage people are getting out of their bikes on these forums 30,000 is nothing. That thing has a long life ahead of it. The only major thing you may want to consider is checking the valve clearance at some point

This is what makes the Wee so great, for $3000 this guy has a world class adventure/sport touring bike. You can't beat that.

It sounds like you got a great bike at a good price. There are many more miles left to go on the bike. The bike seems to be bullet proof. Happy motoring.
