Buying used Wee - what to look for

I've decided to upgrade from a KLR650 to a Wee with ABS (if possible).

What are the specific things I should look for when inspecting a used one?

If the right deal comes along, I'll try and get one with ABS. Anything special to know/look for with the ABS model?

Thanks - man more questions to follow...

Hey Kent, welcome aboard and congrats on wanting to get into the Strom family!

Here is a great link on buying a used motorcycle that I found really helpful when I was looking. It's pretty detailed but full of good info.

Along with everything in the link above here are a few Strom specific things to look for that I came up with off the top of my head. Hoepfully some others will chime in with more info.

1. Oil site glass window - make sure it doesn't show signs of leaking
2. Valve clearances - just find out when/if it's been done (recommended at 14K miles)

There's probably more but I'm coming up blank...sorry! To be quite honest, if you find one of these that's been taken care of properly it will last you a long time!

Thanks for the link.

As a KLR rider, I'm thinking of things like the cam chain tensioner (doohickey) that should be changed - and is a good thing to ask about.

keep hearing that these bikes are bulletproof...

There are a few bolts that can work loose.
Front indicators are very prone to breaking if they hit the ground.

There were a few wiring looms problems in early models, and there's still a splice in the injector line that causes a few people problems.

There are several ignition interlocks that have plugs pop out or are prone to getting cut.

Nothing like the KLR doohicky problem.

If you really need to do something to improve it - suspension work pays off.

The ABS is pretty trouble free compared to most bikes with ABS variants, you can fit a disable switch if you ride lots of dirt.
