Talking Best engine 650 or 1000

I am really close to do the buy but my last question is which motor is better , more reliable. We will be 2 up and with luggage but we do not care about speed ( 3 world country travel)(400 pound including our gear) we will be riding mostly road and some gravel , expecting to do minimum 60000 miles with the bike , we are now on the 1150GS ADV but I got tired of such a big bike.
Thanks for the help.

Whatever you want to call it Wee/DL650ABS.

I got off an 1150GS and on the the Wee.
The Wee does everything the GS did and some of it better than the GS.

I do two up, touring and commuting.
No issues on carrying two with gear, performance is more than ample for the task [unless you want to go racing two up ].

The Wee is smoother and noticeably more economical than the Vee.

Either of the Stroms will leave you with more cash in your pocket for travelling than the Beemers do

For either bike fit:
Fork brace [it is worth it but not essential].
Bash plate.
Crash bars.
Radiator and oil cooler guards.

Ock. in Oz

I ride naked and unafraid.

This should be interesting. 'Better' is so subjective.

No kidding. He's gone and stirred up the anthill.

To the OP: this is the most contentious topic on this site, even more so than "is ABS worth it?" or "which oil: dino or synthetic?" There have been countless posts in dozens if not hundreds of threads hashing it out. You might want to check the official 650 vs 1000 sticky thread, conveniently located at the beginning of the General V-Strom Discussion forum. Or do a search. I seriously doubt there is anything new to be said on the topic.

For what it's worth, I've ridden both 650 and 1000, but I've bought two DL650s.

"I am enthusiastic over humanity's extraordinary and sometimes very timely ingenuities. If you are in a shipwreck and all the boats are gone, a piano top buoyant enough to keep you afloat that comes along makes a fortuitous life preserver. But this is not to say that the best way to design a life preserver is in the form of a piano top.
I think we are clinging to a great many piano tops in accepting yesterday's fortuitous contrivings as constituting the only means for solving a given problem." - R. Buckminster Fuller
