A couple of questions before I buy.

Hey everyone, I've been reading countless threads on this site and have decided on buying a new Strom. Im just not sure if I want the vee or the wee? I'm not trying to start another wee vs vee thread! I live in ontario, and have been riding for a couple of years. Insurance here is expensive (2200 for a vee, 1700 for a wee). I plan on mostly commuting and daytrips, with the odd camping trip too. I'm 6'2, 280 lbs, is the wee enough power for the highway? The Vee seems like the logical choice because of the added power, but not sure if its worth the extra insurance $$$$. Any other 250+ riders on the wee??

I'm on a Vee, but had I known about the Wee I'd be asking the same question as you.
I'm using mine as more sport-touring, and I can run with the big boys on their FJR's. If I was doing more offroad, I'd want the lighter wee. I've known big guys 250lb plus and smaller couples who are over 250 lb together who have no problems on the wee.
Have a look at gtamotorcycle.com . for some options on insurance, depending on your age and experience, I've found PL/PD on a Vee for under $600.

I rode a DL1000 first and didn't like it much. Others here prefer it. So when it doubt, you gotta ride 'em.

As far as weight and the 650 goes, I'm well over 250 in racing leathers and other gear, and the bike still had the steel engine guards and luggage racks, so that's another 30 lbs easy. See if you think this will work for you. Speed at the end of the straight is around 100mph....This was my first or second track day, so I suck, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the replies, im 28, married, no tickets, I pay 1000$ for my current bike (2001 Buell Blast 500cc. Riders Plus Insurance) and still under the graduated license program in ontario M2. I'll be taking my final road test in March. That should bring my rates down a little. For some reason the insurance companies seem to think the Stroms are pure sport bikes? For a laugh, jevco quoted me 2800/year for the vee!!

I was with jevco last year for $629 pl/pd, and the strom was not classified as a sport bike. Kanetix may help you too, but experience really makes the rates drop. I had to restart at zero experience when I moved to ontario, what a PITA. Good luck in your quest.

I'm about 265 geared up,I have both a wee and vee.The wee pulls me around no prob, and will get your license pulled and bike impounded without breaking a sweat (50km over).
I find the wee much more flickable, way smoother, and better on fuel.
However, throttle wheelies are tough to do.
Overall in my opinion (worth exactly what you paid for it:mrgreen
the wee is a much better all around bike unless you want to cruise at 130kmh plus...the wee will do it,but the vee does it better.

Definitely check out ridersplus.com for an insurance quote. They were about half of what Jevco quoted.

Me 85kg + riding gear, Mrs 65kg + riding gear, 2x Givi E41 panniers [side cases I think you guys call them] fully packed with around 15kg+ each of stuff, Givi V42 top box packed with 15kg+ of more stuff, tank bag with another 8kg + of incidentals.

Cruising at around 130kph is no problem, need to gear down for fast overtaking.
But that is a small price to pay for all the advantages the Wee has.
Great fuel economy, super reliable and very easy to throw around on the "fun" roads, ABS brakes.

I traded a BMW 1150GS for the Wee and the Wee does everything I used to do with the GS.

Ock. in Oz

I ride naked and unafraid.

I'm old (60), no moving violations and I pay 150 bucks a year for my insurance (for a VEE) in Denver.

And I think if you have any doubts about power, you should go with a VEE. Turn your right wrist as far as you can and an instant smile comes on your face.
