What's a fair price for an 04 Wee strom??? Also, have choice of used '05.

Hey,

I'm a Wee virgin, looking for a little help on pricing. I just test rode an '04 DL 650, and am considering buying it. I just have no idea if their asking price is fair.

NADA says $1870-$2460
KBB says $2465
But the guy's asking price is $2900, which he says is firm...he's in no hurry to sell it, or so he says.

It's an 04 with about 30,000 miles, in good condition, with SW motech engine bars and skid plate, as well as a topbox (I don't remember what brand).

The bike looked to be used well (with some small nicks and scrapes) but appeared to be well maintained. I rode it around town as well as on the highway, and didn't see/hear/feel any problems.

So, is it worth $2900? Or would I be overpaying?
I'm kinda excited about the prospect of buying this bike, but don't wanna be the chump that overpays either.

I also have another choice of an '05 with about 22,000 miles with motech, engine bars and skid plate(no top box) at $3200. This one's been down a few times and has a bit more scrapes but also looks to be well maintained.

Would this be a better choice for $300 more? I was sort of leaning towards the cheaper '04...(i like that it's black rather than blue...not to mention a bit cheaper).

Pleeeeeaaasssee help me with your thoughts. Wise wee-strom vets!

Correction on KBB value...was trade-in not retail, oops

So as it turns out, the KBB/NADA values I posted in the original post are off...apparently, that was for the trade-in value.

For retail KBB shows $3610

Got your PM midlifeadv, thanks for the info on your 04 wee.

I'd appreciate any more info/opinions from other stromtroopers. Plus, any opinions on whether to bounce the extra $300 for the 05 w 22K miles, versus the 04 w 30k miles (in the color that i like)?

FWIW, I got my '04 wee last Jan from a member here and paid $2800 for it. It had a Givi top box, heated grips, fuse box. The paint was a little nicked up and she had 31,xxx miles or so. I thought I got a great deal.

2004 Wee- Satin Black and set up for touring.
1961 Wife- also nicely farkled!

On a private party sale, I think an average between between trade-in and retail price is a fair starting point. It sounds like the bikes you're looking at have some nice accessories, but mileage may be higher than you like.

Easy things to look for that can help with negotiation are tire condition, brake pad wear, fork seals leaking, or obvious damage from a tip over. These things can add up to a few hundred $$$ pretty quick, especially if you can't do the work yourself.

buyer

It's a buyers market, I have a low mile 05 loaded with hard bags and top case and farkles. I couldn't get squat. I'm keeping it and riding the wheels off of it........
