Best year for 650 or 1000

Newbie here getting ready to buy a used Wee or Vee. Leaning toward a wee. But just wondering if there was a preferred year or years for either one. Power wise, mileage or farkels... Wats the scoop?

The early Vees (02-03) might have more tendency to chudder. But that should be checked for regardless of year. Really there is no disqualifying year for a Vstrom. Buy in confidence!

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Thanks,

GreyWolf, that was a great link. I'll bookmark that site. Haven't seen it before.

My thought is the 2006 Vee is a good year to start due to the FI issue being resolved and the more quiet clutch cover.

The 2008 Wee sounds good due to the increase in alt output. But I have read that not many riders are complaining about the 375w output on their older bikes and I can't find much fault in the Wee. I like it being a little lighter than the Vee. We have a lot of dirt roads in Montana. Handling in the dirt is important to me. There will be a little 2 up riding but mostly myself.
Thanks for the input

http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7503.0.html includes how to do a chudder test. Do a search on chudder here too.

Smile Get the WEE

The WEE is , IMHO, the best of the two. While it won't out run the Vee, it will do evrything a V can do but better due to it's weight. I came off a BIG BMW1150GSA to get a WEE. You will not be disappointed. ABsolutely the best bike I've owned, and you can farkle yourself silly with these things if you have a mind to. Good Luck

Giddy Up!

The exception to this is high speed sustained economy. >75mph wee mileage sucks, so consider the V if you do lots of slab at high speed. Also, if you have a hooligan side, the V is probably better. In twisties the wee will stick with a V no problem, but as soon as you hit the straights the Vs just take off with no hope of catching them until the next combination of corners.

If you want ABS, no choice, 07+ wee. If you don't, any of them make nice bikes.
