looking at a high mileage 1000

hey everybody, great community you have here.

I'm looking at purchasing a second bike and I'm interested in getting an Adventure Touring bike. I've been going some research and looking at different models and I've narrowed it down to the V-Strom 1000.

Given this is going to be a second bike, I'm looking on the used market. I actually found a 2003 V-1000 at the small local dealer that services my Valkyrie. He has done all the service on the bike and it appears to be in good condition. The majority of the usage was highway mileage with only a little gravel.

The bike has 79,000 kms on it (49,000 miles), which is a little more than I would like. Is the mileage a concern? is there anything that I should look for, or have addressed as part of the purchase?

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Mine has 23k miles and shows no significant sign of wear. Runs as well as new.

Having said that, it seems like you could find one with much lower miles. The average motorcycle mileage in the US is just over 1,000 miles per year.

Go hakafugu yourself.

49k miles is not high mileage. These bikes are made to be ridden.

Garage
I would suggest that if the dealership bike suffers from clutch "chudder," have the dealer replace the clutch basket. Might as well start out running as smoothly as possible. Start out with a fresh TBS as well.

Note that there are 6 or 7 DL1000 on the Calgary Kijiji web site, one of which is probably the one you are looking at. There are choices with lower miles, but could cost more.

You are right, there are much lower mileage units available, and not at a whole lot more money (about $1K). I was leaning towards this unit mainly because of the known history and I have a good deal of trust in the dealer (Cycle City, a small Calgary shop).

How much are they asking?

It's a dealer, so one would expect a fair chunk over a private sale.....if you can buy a privately owned bike with way less mileage, in as clean or cleaner shape, for the same price, I would.
