which is the better deal?

After my Yamaha Majesty got totaled by a truck pulling out in front of me, I've been considering what to replace it with (assuming the insurance company ever gets around to sending me a check...). I've pretty much decided on a Wee, and am looking at two in the area. One is an '07, 15k miles, for $5000, though I could probably talk them down to $4500. The other is an '06 for $3250, with 50k miles. Both bikes have engine guards, top and side cases, center stands, and hand guards. The '07 also has heated grips and a 12v outlet, though I'd have no problems adding those myself, especially at that price difference.

My question is, which one do you think is the better buy? They both appear to have been maintained fairly well, and I know that these bikes can run forever if kept up, but is the mileage difference worth the extra cost?

I would not be afraid of the cheaper 06 with the higher mileage.

I think I'll take a nap.

Wear and tear

I'd go with whichever has the better chain, sprockets, and tires. Find out how long ago they were replaced. Honestly they both sound like good deals though. Even if you had to replace parts.

It all depends on how you will use them

I just bought a pristine, low milage 2007 Wee for $5,000. Since then I have put a couple of thousand miles on it and dropped it in the dirt a few times at near zero MPH. It is by no means trashed, but no longer pristine.

I was very happy to find a Wee that I was certain was in almost showroom condition. That was worth a lot even though after my use for a few months it is no longer in that condition.

If you are going to ride the bike hard, and don't care about showroom condition, buy the older bike.

But if you are going to baby it and keep it perfect, buy the newer bike.

Definitely not planning on babying it, but not much more than street riding either. Maybe some hard packed dirt or gravel occasionally. It'll be my daily transportation, so I'm mostly just concerned with dependability. I think I'm leaning towards the '06 though.

Speaking as a long time scooter rider, any tips on learning how to shift these things? I've ridden a dirt bike once or twice, and didn't have much trouble with it, so I don't anticipate it being much of an issue, but I figure those of you who do this everyday probably have some good insight to share anyway.

The only advantage I see with the '07 besides mileage is the fuel economy will be about 10% better overall. The tradeoff (from what I've heard) is the '07s combustion system (ignition/fuel) is slightly less owner servicable. Thankfully mine has not needed anything in that area yet.

The only thing I'd be concerned about with the '06 is valve check/adjustments. If they've been adjusted, no worries. If not ...

Nothing really in the shifting itself. However, always make sure you are in 1st gear at a stop, and don't sit at a red light in neutral.

Well, I had all but made up my mind on the '06, but it appears that my decisions been made for me. I checked the dealerships website tonight and it looks like someone may have beat me to it. I'm still waiting for an insurance check, and still have no idea how much it will actually be, but after spending a couple weeks following along on this forum, and looking at what's available in surrounding states, the '07 still looks to be the best buy I'll be able to find. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that it'll still be there when I'm ready to buy.

I want to say thanks to everyone here for being so friendly and putting so much good information out there, free for the taking. I should be getting the cast off my leg (from the truck that hit me, totaling my old bike) on Thursday, and am looking forward to being a frequent contributor as soon as I get my Wee.
