02 DL1000

I have a guy in town selling a 02 Vstrom 1000 with only 3k on the clock. He's letting it go because he's really into racing bikes so the Strom has been sitting mostly in his garage. What issues(if any)should I look for in this model year DL1000 and is $4200 a good asking price if its in excellent shape?

Thanks

Is he the original owner? Does he have other motorcycles, is that why the mileage is so low? You say he is in to racing, did he do a proper break-in period with his Vee, includiing keeping the RPM's low enough?
It sounds like a good price, but I would ask someone who knows a lot about motrcycles, like a mechanic/technician to go with you to check it out, even if it costs you a few bucks. Its money well spent!

Hello--I have a 02 and love it. Have not had the trouble that a lot of the riders are talking about. Great bike fare price and low mileage. I would buy it . chuck

Good price, for so few miles. Figure on new tires if they are as old as the Vee!

I bought my 02 Vee last year with only 6K miles. The only issue has been a weeping water pump. I repaired that small issue myself for $50. The bike has been a blast. If you don't mind the non adjustable windshield. I vote for you to go for it also.

It's kind of strange, how the mountains pay us no attention at ll. You laugh or cry and the wind just keeps on blowing.

Thanks for all the replies guys. It turns out he had the year wrong, it's actually an 03. So now I'm the proud new owner of a 03 Bumble Bee DL1000. Had I known how fun these bikes are to ride, I'd had one years ago.

Now for all the farkling to begin

Wow!

Heck! The sucker looks new! Lucky you. I hope to own one before long myself. Would appreciate PM with your thoughts once you've had some time on it.
