Would you buy a 2005 wee? Or shell out more $$ for a newer bike?

Howdy everyone!

There is a wee for sale in my area that is a 2005. It's in pretty good shape and I know the guy who owns it. Low mileage, etc etc. Are there any compelling reasons (such as redesigned parts on the bike, etc) that I should look for a newer wee rather than buy this 05?

He's selling it for around $3500 asking price. Bone stock with the ugly 05 tank graphics removed.

Thanks!

In between bikes. Help me find the right one!

Unless you just really feel the need to spend more on a bike, get the '05 and use the money you saved on gasoline and farkles. There haven't been any changes significant enough (except ABS, if you're into that) to warrant getting a newer Wee.

Only you can define "compelling", and what dollar value you attach to that. Ergo, I recommend that you have a look at the model year changes and decide for yourself.

The only reason I traded in a perfectly good '05 on an '07 was for ABS.

Ditto. My 05 had 8,500 miles on it and ran perfectly. They don't even get broken in until the first 5,000 miles or so.

What is low miles? Check out the tires and chain for wear.

I DID buy a 2005 Wee to replace a wrecked 2009 Wee. It had 7600 miles on it when I got it in August, and I have put over 3000 more trouble-free miles on it in the past 2 months. I kind of wonder why I spent $3000 more on the 09 in the first place (other than that at the time, I couldn't find a used Wee anywhere near me, while the local dealer had an 09 in stock).

I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be. (Douglas Adams)

I bought an 05 about a year ago and it has run flawlessly. I put almost 10,000 miles on it in June on a trip to Alaska. The only thing I would like to have off of a newer model would be the orange paint.

It's in the range of 10-15k miles.

WRT ABS, this will sound dumb but how big of a difference does it make? My last bike was an 84 Honda Shadow VT700C. No ABS on it.

I was wondering about the upgrade to dual sparks and the increased alternator capacity. Aside from emissions requirements, does the dual sparkplugs help improve performance/fuel economy/anything else I'd notice? Are those few extra watts of alternator performance worthwhile? I was planning to add heated grips and probably some highway lights at some point.

Thanks for all of your advice and opinions! Now I just have to get up the courage to withdraw enough cash from the bank to buy it.

In between bikes. Help me find the right one!

When I was buying in '06, the Wee didn't have the higher output stator, which was a deal breaker for me (lots of heated gear for winter riding). So I bought a Vee. Grips and lights only probably won't be an issue for you.

I bought a 2005 with 18K miles on it and haven't looked back!

Personally I prefer buying used. If you're patient and diligent about inspecting the bike you can usually find a used one that is 85-95% as good as a new one for 50-60% of the price.

If I were you I'd go for the used 2005 and use the difference to buy some luggage and a nicer seat. But that's me, each to his own!
