I think this is somewhat like me. Longer legs and not as long torso and arms. The '16 DL1000 fits me with none of what you're worried about (leaning forward, lower back strain, etc...) YOu could always drop by a dealer and sit on a new bike to see how it feels. Forum correct me if I'm off on this, but I think '14 to present will have you sitting in the same position.

What the heck are marsupial arms? Yeti or Orangatang I understand. Do Marsupial arms have pouches under them for their young?
If Husar is from down under, marsupial may be appropriate.
Marsupial's are generally thought of as having shorter arms.

All kidding aside...

I am 6'6" with a ' 35" ' inseam (have to alternate between 34 or 36 depending on the pant manufacturer). I have changed a bunch on my '14 DL1000A ergos. Windshield, bar riser, tall aftermarket seat, pegs lowered, and love my highway pegs.

Raising the handlebars and lowering the pegs are not just helpful for me in the seated position, but also are an improvement for riding standing up. It makes it so that I can stand without hunching down.

I'm 6'1" and riding a 2012 DL1000 with Richland Rick's lowering pegs. Total barstool like comfort, even with pterodactyl-like arms.

6'3" 31" inseam. 14 DL1000A put the high seat on it 1st thing and fit is OK. I may add risers and pegs lowering once I do some 300 mile days. I put 2" risers on most my Bikes.
Windscreen sucks went with a Givi Airflow and can ride without earplugs.
Check cycle trader for new leftovers. I got mine new OTD for NADA of a used one.

I'm 6'2" and I ride an '08 650. Stock handlebars and foot pegs.

The leg position got a bit tiresome after 5+ hours of riding at first, but after a couple of months I can go for hours on end with no problem. The ergos are great!

I can’t speak to all versions of ‘Stroms but I have owned the 2012 650 and currently own a 2014 1000 Adventure. I’m 6’2” with a 34” inseam, 36” sleeve (no marsupials in my immediate lineage &#x1f604 and a titanium left knee. Both bikes have the standard seat pan although the 1000 has Laam custom leather reuphostery purchased by the PO. On both bikes I installed the ADV-Tech footpeg lowering kit which really increased long ride comfort and ease of/ comfort during standing up. On the 2012 I installed a 1” bar riser and found the ergos to be about right for me. When my son, who is 6’8” with “38 inseam began riding this became his bike. He claims the ergos to be great for him as well although he is young and doesn’t suffer from the ailments of a high-mileage physique. On the 2014 I would always get a burning pain in my neck and left shoulder that became very pronounced on any ride over 45 minutes. I became aware that what I initially thought was an upright riding position actually had me leaning forward ever so slightly. Kind of like standing at a workbench that’s just an inch too low. This put my back and neck in enough tension to cause the muscles to burn after time. I installed an SW-MOTECH barback riser (1” rise, 1.25” back) which immediately eliminated the issue and I can ride all day in comfort with no problems. I should mention that on both bikes I installed home-built highway pegs to allow for stretching the legs and shifting weight on long rides. I would guess that whatever bike you get will probably need some fiddling to tune it to your particular physical needs and riding style - particularly if your not an X or Y-gen. As always YMMV!
BTW I’ve been a reader of this forum for years and have benefited from the wisdom of its members immensely but this is my very first post! Hopefully it’s been helpful.

6'3 35" inseam 2004 dl1000, tall bars, bar risers (i do have orangutang arms), and pegs lowered 1".... works well for me; I've noticed this setup helps me in standing up as well.
I have highway pegs mounted to skid plate/crash bars; I find it helps to reposition my legs during long trips.

I' going to try to answer the question and then give some advice.

DL1000 2002 to 2012 (called a Vee here) and all years DL650 have the same ergos except that the seat is about 1" taller on the DL1000 and strangely enough there is ever so slightly more room between the shifter and the peg on the DL650 than the DL1000.

For shorter riders, the Vee seat can be changed to a Wee seat (DL650 2004 to 2011 DL650), but that would not help you.

Here is some advice for taller and or shorter riders.


The 2014 and up DL1000 may be your best option. It has stiffer suspension from the factory also. Add a footpeg and control lowering kit and gear shift relocation kit (assuming those long legs have big feet at the end of them), mirror extenders, AF3105 windscreen and then eventually maybe a more comfortable seat.

I'm 6'4" 35" inseam w/boots riding a 2014 DL1000A. Most of the things mentioned I've added including a Suzuki tall seat. The standard seat pushed the family jewels into the tank, with the tall seat I can almost flat foot stopped. Have the peg lowering set from Adv Tech but don't have them on yet, based on the mentions/reviews here will be first thing. I also added the Givi Aeroflow. I think it's really ugly but it's also really really effective.
The 2012-2014 DL650 Adventure came with aluminum side cases and around 40 lb lower weight and better gas mileage than the DL1000.
DL1000 got a pretty much complete rebuild in 2014 and mobetter electronic suspension in 2018.
In the early 2010's, before I got serious about buying an Adv bike, sitting on Suzuki's at the bike shows, the DL650's were always much more comfortable ergonomically.

Check out Motorstorm.it for anything Givi, great prices and I usually get delivery to Minn. from Italy within a week of ordering, often before the US vendors have started to ship.
