Best Model Year 650 for Tall Rider

Hi All,

Lots of top ten lists and forums proclaim the Wee a good bike for tall riders (I'm a lanky 6' 5"). So I was wondering if that holds true for all model years of 650. In other words, if I'm shopping for a used ride, are all V-Stroms equally ergonomic for long-legged dudes? Or are there some model years that should be avoided by beanpole bikers?

Any comments/thoughts/observations are appreciated.

The ergonomics are basically similar for all 650 (and 1000). I would not say they are well suited for your size, at least not without any modifications.

However there are various relatively affordable changes you can make to gain some room for your legs like taller seat, peg lowering kit, handlebar riser ... etc. Others with more specific recommendations will hopefully chime in.

Perhaps you will get more accurate opinions if you give us your inseam instead (or in addition) of your height. and yes blaustrom is right about various options to help you find the right position on the bike.

Adding ATV high bars and 25mm risers, a peg lowering kit, and a taller windscreen made my 2014 DL650 suitable for me at 6'2", 33" inseam.

I often ride in excess of 400 miles in a day and each change made the ergonomics better. I have no plans to raise the seat height but I hope to change it out this year for one with a little more comfort.

As it was shipped from the factory it was a little tight. I also suffered mightily from the stock bars, hands numb after 4-5 hours. The ProTaper ATV high bars fixed that.

The windscreen needed to be replaced after some acrobatics so I opted for the much recommended Givi screen and it is able to shed the wind over my helmet much better than the stock one. Highly recommended. Highly.

I put highway pegs on but they don't seem to help much. I think I look cool with my feet out but long days were just as long when I used the crash bars and passenger pegs as alt foot positions.

I don't know about the off road ergos as I only have about 200 miles on the dirt but I have managed 24k miles on asphalt in the last couple years. This is my first and only motorcycle so TIFWIW. YMMV.

I'm 6'4", and find the DL1000 very comfortable. IIRC, the 650 has a slightly shorter seat - so if you can swap it out for a DL1000 seat (should be a direct swap) it will help. You might be able to find a height challenged person with a DL1000 that would benefit from your seat.

There are also aftermarket tall seats.

I've also dropped my pegs 2" and raised my bars 2" - and now it's the perfect fit.

I always thought the first gen bikes felt bigger to me.Not sure if that bears out in the numbers or not. I'm 6'4" btw.
My first gen 650s all had 1000 seats for a little more room (and a lot more comfy imo)

I'm 6'4" with a 33" inseam, long in the torso. Here's apic of me on my K9 Wee.

I since adjusted the handlebars up a bit more. I've done many 400 mile days on the beast.

The givi airflow is a must for us tall guys. I'll be putting a peg lowering kit on this summer and a gear shift extender too.

This set up let's me stand comfortably to control the bike when riding forest trails.
