New v. Used DL1000

Hello All. I'm looking at setting up a new rally bike. I do a few endurance rallies like the Minnesota 1000 and the Void. Did Butt Lite 8 on a 2003 BMW R1150 RT. The old RT is getting past its prime. The DL1000 comes up on my short list of replacements. I see a few members have had both a pre-2018 V-Strom 1000 and (at least) one from 2016 or earlier. How do they compare? Is the buffeting and noise that much better on the '18? Considering all the farkling I'll be doing, is it worth the extra expense to get a new one, or should I farkle a used version?
