V-Strom 1000

I am a Brit who's new to the group and will be hiring a V-Strom 1000 in Marietta, near Atlanta, on March 10 to ride to Daytona Bike Week (because I couldn't hire a Ducati, and loved the V-Strom I hired to ride from Vancouver to San Francisco six years ago).

Anyway I am seeking advice from American bikers about great bike haunts to visit on the trip - I plan to ride the Tail of the Dragon, but anything and anywhere else is up for grabs.

Oh and another things. Is there a power outlet on the 2010-2012 V-Strom 1000? And if so, where is it located?

Thanks for your help

There is an outlet, on the dash I believe. Where to go depends on how much time you have. The entire area around the Smoky Mountains (NC, TN, GA) is nice, but early March can be cold. You could spend a week there and not get bored. You could get on the Blue Ridge Parkway and ride it 450 miles or so North into Virginia. You could spend a week doing this also. West US is great but you would be 3 days ride away from it in Daytona.

As for Florida, its boring to me except for the Keys and some beach areas. But, it would be warm.

Curious, how does a Brit find a place that rents 5-7 year old V-Stroms ?!?

If it interests you, check out the Space Center at Cape Canaveral. They have a couple of launches in March.

Oops, I missed the model year of the rental. The older stroms did not have a power outlet.

I suspect it is with the Eagle Rider in WOW Motorcycles in Marietta. They had a great selection of bikes last fall including some V-Stroms.

The CHEROHALA SKYWAY is close to the Tail of The Dragon and is an incredibly beautiful ride. the Blue Ridge Parkway is absolutely gorgeous as well but runs north and March is a bit early.

Cherohola Skyway is a great ride (better than Tail of the Dragon IMO), but you go up to in altitude and it gets chillier up there. Hellbender on the NC side of the Dragon is a good continuation of the ride and Helen, GA is a great Area to ride as well. I'm still figuring out the roads in Florida, so I don't have any recommendations there yet.

Just a thought since your heading to the tail maybe hit Birmingham AL and stop by the Barber Motorsport park. Has the largest privately owned motorcycle collection in the world and is a fantastic day to rest if your so inclined.
