If you ride 2 up much at all, get the big Vee. I had a 650, briefly. It's a fine machine and if I was a dedicated solo rider it would be just fine. However, you will appreciate the extra power of the Vee for 2 up riding, not to mention the fun factor. People may say the 650 performs like, or almost as good. Don't believe it. In terms of hardcore acceleration, you will notice the difference, especially during an overtaking maneuver on a 2 lane road. Old but true saying, there's no replacement for displacement. Trade the 41 tooth sprocket for a 43 and you're in business. Also as a bonus, you can do valve adjustments on the Vee without messing with cam chains. You're coming from a big bike with good power, and may not be happy with the small displacement version. It is true the Wee weights a bit less, costs a little less, and uses less fuel, but not to the extent that these factors should be the basis of your decision. Either way you're getting a very good motorcycle. Just evaluate each bike for what you truly intend to do with it, and go with whichever one you believe will inspire the most confidence as well as fun whether you're 5 or 500 miles from home. Happy riding.
