Thinking about a 2013 Vstrom 650 ABS

Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a 2013 Vstrom 650 ABS. 5800 miles, aftermarket seat, windshield, handlebars. Looks like it's in good shape. I think the price is good at $5000. Anything I should be aware of here?

That's a decent price, if the bike is in good shape.
Be sure that the charging system works. Measure the battery voltage before and after a 10 minutes test ride, and while running in neutral at 3000 or more RPM. It should not decline over the course of the ride and should be at least 13.8 VDC at 3k RPM. This is to ensure that the bike does not have a failed stator, a problem to which many V-Stroms are prone, including that model.

That's a nice deal, especially with those mods. Go see it, if you like it, I wouldn't hesitate. 5800 miles is nothing on these bikes.

Make sure that all recalls are done, there was an issue with premature cam wear due to contamination. Recall included replacement of cams if less than 2500mi or oil change and free vavle adjustment after

Suzuki has a website where you can enter VIN and find out what needs to be done good luck

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I looked at the bike, I really like like it. I've got the VIN now, so I'm going to check the recall notices and check on insurance. Conditional on that, I think I'm gonna take it.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

A couple of months ago I bought a 2013 DL650 with 5200 miles, recall complete, center stand and Oxford heated grips for $4,900.00.

Now at a little over 10,000 miles and couldn't be happier. I did get a Sargent seat, Givi windscreen and HT pannier racks (had Pelican 1550's from the DR that swap over) and for less than $6,000 I have a very capable mile eater. Nice thing is being used its a cost feasible everyday bike that I don't mind if it gets dirty, scratched or used hard. That's exactly want its built for.

I've got more miles than that on my bike after 5 months. They're nice bikes; whether you buy it or not, come back and hang out here. It is a great rider's forum.
