sort of where my head is too.... thinking 8500 out the door might be a target.
Trying to figure if the 16's would be worth 3k more.
I don't think there is a chance of under $9000 out the door. $9000 would be a steal on the bikes purchase, if you can get it for that then add standard taxes and fees. Beware the prices you see in Cycle Trader and other places. Most will have hundreds if not well over $1000 in added non-registration fees ( dealer profit).
Latest model or an earlier "left-over"? I bought a zero miles, 2014 DL650 Adventure for less than $8k out the door. (MSRP for that year was $10,049).
Later on, the same dealership advertised another virginal DL650 Adventure for several hundred $$ less than I paid. The upshot to me is that if the bike is a zero miles, showroom perfect vehicle the two years difference in the '14's and the '16's is not worth the extra $$ for the latest model. Besides, the bike will never know the difference...
Re, the 1000's: I'm not sure about the price difference between the 650's and the 1000's, but as a ball park, buying a new, left-over bike for 20% to 22% less than the MSRP seems common.
Coming off oa BMW that weighed more than 600 lbs., my choice on the DL was motivated in part by a desire for a smaller, lighter bike, and in part by a desire for the stone solid reliability of the Jap bikes. At both those points I'm happy.
Next, other than working out the buffeting and the ergonomic issues I've been been completely satisfied with this purchase in terms of price and the fun factor. The darned thing is absolutely a joy to ride.
