Question Red - looking CA Vs out of state

Considering used wee's instead of new [in part becasue i like red in particular] and not a lot red in CA, so considering ones in 47 states. I have noted that some 2005 posted are just plain red and 2006 have the decals. Is that factory difference in years?

Also curious if any one knows if the 49 state models might run better or quicker a bit (not sure what the CA emission difference is). I can buy and import one with over 7,500 miles to CA. Am I correct that the red years (only 2005/2006?) would also only be single plugged versus dual plug for 07 and later (read that in post).

Sorry if I am asking info available in other posts, I have browsed around but there is a lot to search through and I am probably missing things [point to links to other posts would be great]

thanks.

Only difference is that the 49 states model doesn't have the charcoal canister under the right side panel cover. Otherwise they're pretty much identical. They run exactly the same.

Correct. The dual-plug model came in 2007.

RED in ElDoradoCounty

If you are interestered in a red wee I can possibly help. The only thing about buying a wee outside of Calif is that you go to get it registered in Calif you have to smog it. A friend of mine went thru hell when he purchased a Harley in Nevada last year. If you would like to contact me here in Diamond Springs, let me know on this site and I will give you my info. By the way I know of at least 4 Wee's and 2 Vee's in the county not for sell 2 of them red.

No, you don't have to smog a non-California motorcycle brought into California. We don't smog motorcycles here. Nobody would know how, our smog stations have no equipment for smogging motorcycles. It simply has to be used, not new. "Used" is defined in the California code as having 7500 miles or more on it. It also has to have a valid US EPA emissions sticker, which they check at the same time they check the VIN. Unfortunately the emissions sticker on some Wee's is under the gas tank :-(. Bring tools.

Now, a *car* does have to be smogged when imported into California...

As for your guy with the Harley problems, if it was not California-emissions certified yeah he would have problems. Presumably he had to do some illegal-ass sh*t to get it registered in California, since there's no legal way to do it until it has 7500 miles or more on it...

Anytime you register an out of state vehicle in CA, you will have to have a VIN verification done as well. This will have to be done by the salvage officer or VIN officer at your local CHP office. Being that your in Placerville, they probably don't have one in such a small office, but don't quote me on that. They might send you to the South Sac. office to have the VIN verification done.
