Question "looking at 04 650"

I am going to try and look at at a 2004 650 with 7,600 miles. Other than the usual bike review, is there anything to look out for on this model? It appears that most of the FI and clutch problems were with the 1000. Is there any concern with these for a 2004 650 and what would I expect to experience in a ride if there was? (may only have limited ride so I do not want to miss anything)

I bought a used 04 two years ago. It only had 3800 miles on it. I've added 12,000 more. Haven't found anything to be concerned about.

I bought an '04 with about 4000 miles on it 2 years ago too. Have added about 10,000 since (need to ride more :P). No issues with mine either - have only had to do scheduled maintenance tasks. Still rides like new. Hope yours turns out to be good too!

If the tires are original then the rear might be getting close to the end of it's useful life depending on the style of the rider.

When I bought my 2004 I lowered the front end by 15mm to make it more stable on the highway in crosswinds. I don't know if this is still recommended practice for the newer models, but I do know it made a noticeable difference for me when riding on I-95.

BTW, is it one of the faster black models like mine?

I bought my '04 last year with 17,000 miles on it. I now have 30,000 miles with no money spent on repairs, just the usual consumables - tires, oil, battery. Spent lots on accessorizing - that's the way it should be. Still love the bike, can't imagine anything else that does so much as well.

'04 DL650 - Blue, 57,000 miles, well personalized, gone but loved
'08 WR250R - Goes anywhere
2012 Yamaha Super Ténéré - makes the DL redundant

My 2004 Wee now has over 31,000 miles with only replacing battery, tires, sprockets and chain (once for each). I never worry about its dependability since it has always been ready for me.
