Difficulty of fairing/tank removal

So I've sold my old bike and am on the hunt now for the right wee. There are a few in my area that look interesting but a couple are the baby-blue color that I'm really not crazy about. I have no problem re-painting them but am wondering how much is actually involved with removing the tank and fairings for paint. Am I looking at like 30 minutes to have it all off or longer? For clarification i'm looking at 2012 or earlier and would remove just the painted parts like the tank, the fairings on the side of the tank, and the ones towards the rear.

Any insight would be appreciated. Would be good to have an idea of what I would be getting myself into and can use that to help when making a decision.

Fuel Tank Removal How to, 650 & 1000

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

It isn't difficult, just tedious. After doing it a few times, it gets a lot quicker. And, it doesn't need to be done often (when I remember to put everything back correctly).

This is perfect. Thank you! Looks like it's a piece of cake, albeit a little finicky. Maybe I will more highly consider some of the bikes that are the color I don't like and just plasti-dip or actually respray them.

Vinyl is a nice option as well that leaves the old paint intact. This is much better for resale value. Just rip off the vinyl and it looks like new.

Plasti Dip this weekend

I had my plastics off this weekend for a coolant flush and I decided to have some fun with Plasti Dip. Here are my results on the fairings and my helmet.

What I learned- I was covering black on the helmet and the fairings. So I would suggest masking the item-spraying a few coats-then removing masking while coats are still wet. Let cure for a few hours then re-mask for final coats. My applications adhered to the masking tape and made my edges ragged. This really triggers my OCD....but I am going to go with it to see if I like it and redo it next spring or over the winter.

Another great source for instructional videos is the series by "Dr V Strom" on Youtube. He has tank removal and other V Strom procedures on his channel. I am a visual learner and he is really good.
