Maintenance and new Vs used

Researching the site for as much as I can get in DL650 before I test ride at a dealer. I typically prefer to buy new (had my current bike 25 yrs) but since these Vstroms sound very reliable am considering also shopping used (since most dealers won't even test ride).

Another post said "'06 's are nice because you can still do the TBS' and idle setting yourself" and also mentioed valve adjustents, which leads me to the question what differences there would be between buying a new 08 or 09 Vs a used older one. I like to do all my maintenance.

Are there any differences between the new and older models in terms of being able to do maintenance (don't know much about them). Any differences between the DL650 and DL1000 in terms of ease of or ability to do maintenance?

Thanks in advance.

K6 or K7

For sure you can't do as much yourself on the K7 and newer bikes. Evidently the dealer has to a bunch of stuff that you can do yourself on the K6 and earlier models. Is that good or bad? I don't know for sure. If you want ABS that kind of ends the conversation. Mine is a k5 and I can do anything I need to do on it. I do allot of my own work too. I haven't seen many used dl650's lately. There was an k8 for $7200 on craigslist up your way.

Good Luck!
