Thinking about a V-Strom
I am thinking about getting a V-Strom. I currently have a 2000 BMW K1200LT and a 1997 KLR 650. I love both of these bikes, but I need both to do what I like, neither will do everything I want.
I like to ride to work, about 65 miles round trip, take long trips to Oregon, about 4-600 miles, and ride FS roads, fire roads, and mild off road stuff.
My KLR is more capable than I really need, and my BMW is more touring bike than I really need.
My wife rarely ever goes with me and so the BMW is a bit more than I need, and it will not go off road, way too heavy and just not meant to go there.
My KLR just sucks on any long road rides, but does great on the FS roads and fire roads.
So, this leads me to looking at the V-Strom, it seems to do all I want to do, road and off road in the style and kind of riding I want to do.
With that said, I really like the new 650XT. I like the wire wheels, but wonder if I really need them, or would the cast do for what I want? Also, I like the panniers on the XT, but know I can find just as good or better aftermarket, and may lean towards soft bags or Pelicans.
So, is it worth buying the XT, or should I just save money and get the base model with ABS?
Also, what about the used ones? Any reason I should buy new over used? XT is new only right now, but I see great older ones for nice prices with low miles.
Any advice would be great, thanks.
