Lowering exhaust on Glee below pannier?

Hi, I've been lurking on these pages for a couple of years... Thoughts of getting back in to riding after many years have kept getting postponed by health and financial limitiations, but it now looks possible that the universe may make it possible for me to get a bike in a few months.

I'm very interested in a V-Strom 650 (the other major contender being a Honda CB500X). The two biggest things that may make me choose the Honda would be firstly the top-heaviness of the Glee (which can be partially solved by lowering, and I don't think I need advice on that issue as there's nothing mysterious about it). The second issue is trickier - I would want hard cases for touring out into the wilderness, but I really really don't like the aesthetics of mounting a big hard case outside the right side pannier.

So my question is this: would it be possible to lower the exhaust of a Glee so that a large hard pannier could be mounted above it? The one that looks most likely is the Shad SH36 as it leaves a bit of room underneath, but please feel free to suggest any combo that would work.

What do you think? Is this a crazy idea from a rather non-mechanical person, or might it be reasonably possible without spending a fortune?

Should work, take a look at an SV650 or Gladius, see how their mount works and see if that'll fit on a DL. With luck you can find something on eBay or at a wreckers that'll just fit.

Avoid water crossings and you should be fine.

Ah! Hadn't thought of water crossings. But looking at the SV (which seems more relevant than the Gladius as the exhaust is a more similar length) it would seem perhaps possible to get the exhaust just under the Shad SH36 and still have the exhaust exit above the wheel axle. Don't think I'd want to do a water crossing deeper than that anyway.

How would the Glee engine like an SV exhaust? How exact does the total pipe length to the exit point need to be before it starts messing a lot with the engine torque?

Shad cases

The SHAD sh36 cases, which I like quite a bit, will not fit without some fabrication. They have a special bracket which is designed to be bike specific. I think the dl650 exhaust is exactly why they have not made brackets for it. Check for some video reviews that show the mount system as you will have to modify the special 3P mount brackets.

Also, here is a neat link I fond that shows a bunch of hard cases mounted to the wee/wee2 and what they look like.
