'08 DL650's low in supply; What should I pay?

Hello all. I've been trolling the site for a while getting acquainted to the Stroms. I'm sold that the Wee will be my next bike. I am closing the deal on selling my Honda 599 later this week and want to put the funds into a Wee. I really prefer to get a new one, though am not completely opposed to a used in near mint condition.

I've run across an apparent supply issue. For the last year when I window shopped local Suzuki dealerships from time to time, they always had a couple DL650's collecting dust, one and even 2 years out models. They couldn't get rid of them. All of a sudden, the 5 dealerships in my area (Jax, FL) don't have Wee's, don't know if they'll get anymore '08's, and only one says they have the ability to get one if a deal is struck.

If my local dealer can truly put their hands on one, or if I have to drive to a dealer in another city, at most what should I pay? MSRP on a non-ABS is $6699. And from what I gather, I may be paying every bit of that. What about the freight, delivery, etc.? I've heard that those fees are already built into the MSRP and its all just pure profit for the dealers.

Any advice or insight you can provide is most certainly appreciated.

Regards,
Gary

I had the same issue, but when it happened, it happened quick. Fellow strommer truned me on to the deal he had been working on but at the last minute backed out on. When I was searching, the east and Florida had the most to choose from. Only several months ago. I know Suzuki reduced thier shipments to the States. It seems like when the shippments hit the west coast, it takes a week or 2 to filter through to other states, then prices drop for a week or 2. I paid $6050, no set up etc, also no ABS. Make sure they see your money.

Sandman - We're having a similar problem in Massachusetts. I called dealers throughout Mass, RI, and NH, and what little stock that was available was over $7000 OTD for a non-ABS model. This applied to 07 leftovers too. I searched a little farther and found a dealer in Troy, NY (120 miles away) and was quoted a OTD price of just under $6300 for a 08 non-ABS. He's having trouble getting stock from Suzuki, but expects his next shipment in 10 days. Good luck with your search.

V-Curious no more! I found 2 '08 flat black non-ABS in FL after calling about 15 dealers. One made me a very nice offer after all previous one were full MSRP + freight + assembly + blah blah blah.

I drove 170 miles to get it, but everything in the deal was right!.

I've search 5 dealerships in a 200 mile area. All polutated area dealers here in Oklahoma City are sticking to retail (one dealer wanted 2008 retail for an 2007 model, and would not come down), supply and demand favor the dealers.

I saved $500 waiting 1 month for a dealer 40 miles away to get a Wee in stock. $6400.00 out the door with center stand installed.

Chickasha Suzuki came down $300 over the phone, and Performance Suzuki in OKC (West end) matched it, over the phone, for my '08 flat black. Not a huge savings but better than MSRP. They only added $40 for the paperwork and associated b.s., so not bad.

I got an over the phone price, but did do better waking thru the door and explaining the price I was qouted if I drove 150 miles. Performance Cycle "Bethany" was asking me to pay 2008 retail for a new 2007. I hung up...

They are only getting 1 or 2's per shipment. I expect sales will soon be locked in at retail, much like the scooters are now.
