Power Draw.

Not being an electrical genius has a few drawbacks. Question for those who know more than I do. Have two 50 watt bulbs wired in parallel , power draw is 100 watts total, got that figured out. Wiring the two bulbs in series.........is the power draw still 100 watts total ??? I am sure I knew the answer to this 40 years ago but the mental filing system is rusting out.

In series, two 50W bulbs would draw 25W and be very dim.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

I will assume 25 watts per bulb and that is just perfect for my purposes. Have two driving lights with MR-16 bulbs that I want to use for more visibility to oncoming traffic. They are yellow like my last ones. Wired in series as an experiment they are very noticeable without being blinding. Wired in parallel will make enemies very quickly. Thanks a bunch GW. Much appreciated.

I was a bit glib. It's actually more complex than that as each bulb gets 6V in a 12V series circuit. Rated wattage is targeted for the rated voltage. The filaments don't get as hot with the lower voltage so their resistance is less and power draw more. Still. The total power draw will be way less than in parallel.

You may get more light if you changed the MR16 lamps from two 50W in series (~25W) to two 10W bulbs connected in parallel (20W) due to the above point.

Yup, that will be my next option if I have a dead battery one fine day. I do want to try the present bulbs because of the color which is very eye catching. 10 or 20 watt MR-16 bulbs are very common but none that are yellow. What would I do without a little technical adventure and little to no knowledge on the subject ?? LOL................At least others can be entertained with my mistakes and misadventures.
