V-Strom at the track

I currently have a 2005 Speed Triple, but am considering trading it for a DL650. I have a few track days lined up this year, and and thinking that maybe I should hold on to the triple until after these are done, but... the thought of the comfort, luggage, and passenger abilities of the DL (as well as a mild dual sport nature) are pretty appealing. And did I mention how I like the MPG. I just spent $50 last night to fill up my small truck.

But I'm curious if anyone's taken a V-strom to a track, and what your thoughts were about that. I know it's probably not it's natural habitat, but will I still get the grin that the Speed Triple gives in that arena? I have taken an SV650S to this track and fell in love with that bike. But, the ergos are just not right on that bike for the long distances I want to do. Plus I'm feeling more of a need for creature comforts when riding on the road.

I would consider keeping the triple, but to be honest, all I'd want it for is the track and I'm building a DRZ super moto and eventually will probably get a GSXR strictly for track riding. So I see a Speed Triple gathering dust in my garage. Currently the stable is a YZ450F (that I am racing), DRZ400S (a true dual sport), and a Speed Triple.

While I have never taken my bike to the track, I know that the person I bought it from did have it on the track several times (although he didn't tell me the truth about them). I will be taking mine to the track on April 19th and I will see how well it does then.

Here is a write up that my BF did about my track day with some pics.

"Well, Batgirl did her first ever track day yesterday in an effort to come to terms with the Wee Strom. IMHO, she did very well. She started off the day very hesitant and nervous. As the day progressed, and the few drizzles passed, and after some instruction from the control riders and much encouragement from me, she started making good progress and actually started to get a little more confident in the curves, which have been her weak point. Over all, I would say the day was a success.

It is also worth noting, that there was not one single accident all day. All the ladies did great and every one of them are heroes to me. Girls don't get out there and do what they were doing, women do. I am just lucky to have a woman that likes this stuff as much as I do.

I took lots of photos of her and some of the other ladies but will only include a few here and a link to the rest.

Let's start with a beautiful sunrise over Jennings.

Now, a few pics of the naked Strom, taped and ready to ride.

And one of the woman and her machine.

This girl is wondering just what in the hell kind of bike this is.

Starting out.

Not yet convinced the bike will lean.

Entering T13 early in the day

T13 later in the day. actually leaning the bike. I think she made a lot of progress, and she was told by one of the instructors that she looked like a totally different rider than when she started the day. I agree.

Here are a couple random shots of other women.

Here is the link to the rest of them.

Batgirl will post up her review when she wipes that silly ass smile off her face."

As far as what bike to have for the track, I can't tell you. This was my first but for me it was great. Not the fastest by any means but I had a great time and it did very well.

Nice track pics!!!!

"Track Day" has various definitions depending upon who you ask....Seems like her track day was just what she needed. What a great venue to hone skills and gain some confidence. Love that pic of the woman checking out the strom. You can see WTF all over her face, even with the helmet on. Priceless.

Looks like a great time and a lot learned....

How long did it take to nakedize the bike and return it to street form?

Wish I had done it...

It took my BF about 45 minutes to take it apart, including the luggage racks. He says it won't take much longer to put it back together. He likes it better naked so getting him to put it's clothes back on may be harder than getting him to take them off.
