A babe in the woods!

Hi gang, I've been reading for a while but finally joined up.

I'm new to cycles, haven't ridden street ever, but I grew up on dirt bikes. After 30 years of making excuses, I bought an old beater GS450 to learn the hard lessons on and I'm doing my MFS courses & hanging out with knowledgeable folks to keep me safe and secure.

A couple years ago I met a guy at a campout that had a DL1000 and his buddy on a Triumph Tiger, and was blown away at the bikes...and the possibilities and it got me wanting one....or both! Well, the Tiger's too English and too expensive so here I am.

I've got a good friend with an '03 DL1000 with just a couple thousand on the odo, and he's going to sell it to me very shortly....so I'm here to learn everything I can, emerse myself in the Vee & Wee love and share in the community...and it seems like a great one from my browsing.

And yes, I'm very aware of how much bike the Vee is to a newb, so I will be refraining from any serious riding until I spend more time on my GS, take advanced courses (Mid-Ohio is but a stone's throw away), and build up my confidence! However, it won't stop me from buying that silver baby and putting it in my garage!!!

Never met a dog I didn't like, a machine I couldn't break, or a woman I couldn't tick off.

So what you're saying is that you're not REALLY a babe? Well, I'm disappointed, but welcome anyway.:-) Great site here, everything you need to know and some you don't.

Welcome to the group!! There are alot of good folks in the central Ohio area. Watch the regional section for some group rides and tech days. All the guys are always willing to lend a hand.
Glad to hear that you respect the VEE, and are willing to take your time to learn proper technique. You will love this bike if you come from a dirt back ground. I too, rode dirt bikes for years, as a matter of fact, sold a DR350 to buy the Strom.
When you do get on her, take your time and she will treat you right

Welcome Swingset...we are glad to have ya!!!!! There are several of us here in Central Ohio, we are all buddies and hangout frequently. Hope to see you soon, I'm sure we will be having a get together when the weather "officially breaks". Good choice on the 1000....that is what most of us Ohio Boyz ride.

Wait until you see Badtraindrivers 1000....that bike is ridiculous.

Welcome, Swingset!

From my point of view, you are learning mountaineering from the top.

There are a lot of hazards in our world, and quite a few of them can be found with your right hand. Your dirt bike experience will be very important to you, of course, and you are very prudent to take the MSF course, especially on a machine with modest power.

GS450 modest? My first eight motorcycles had far smaller engines than that!

I am sure you will not top me for stupidity. In 1965 I took a long trip; despite some setbacks, I had a fine time and learned a lot and enjoyed my ride immensely. So what did I do about that? I didn't take another long ride for 41 years, that's what. When I finally got a Wee-Strom, I started making up for that long hiatus. I have learned that a 500-mile day is not very difficult, and have even managed four 600-mile days in a row, with one night in a tent in the middle.

I hope your new machine brings you great pleasure. In my experience the Stromtroopers are an amazingly cordial, helpful, and cheerful bunch.

It's time for me to run a flag up my flagpole, and today I shall fly the 17-star flag (or maybe it's a burgee) of Ohio.

Cheers!
Keith

Thanks guys for the welcome and the kind words, can't wait to get going and I would love to meet some other Ohio folks...I'm sure as I get into this hobby I will have a litany of stupid questions, and it's great to step right into a good group of guys that know their stuff...I'm a good student!

I've been looking at the picture thread and some of you have some very nice rides and have done some cool mods....already got my wheels spinning!!

Come on Spring!!!!
