Question Differences between V-Strom abs and adventure

I am going to get a 2014 Suzuki V- Stom within the next month and I am wondering what the big differences are between the 650 ABS and the 650 Adventure ABS. I Know the adventure has a few accessories on it and I am wondering if that is the only things. I don't care much for the side and back bags that are in the pictures but I do want the crash guards. I am wondering what would be cheaper to get the adventure or the ABS and get the accessories added on? Thanks for answering my questions.

Had I been buying my V-strom again, I would most likely go with the regular non ADV version.

The only reason why I went with the ADV version was because, my-12 Glee was a left over and I got a really great price on it. Pretty much the same price as a regular non ADV model. And at 0% APR for 5 years, the cost of accessories that the ADV model has went into my loan.

So there's no difference between two bikes outside of the added accessories.

Just ask yourself if you would rather have the ADV accessories added onto your loan.

If you're buying with cash. Forget a new bike.

Look for 2012 glee and save yourself few thousand dollars. I have seen few 2012 -vstrom that are barely broken in.

What's 6k miles? That's nothing.

I'm far from an expert, but I think the only thing the Adventure gets you are engine guards, the rack system/panniers and a different windshield. All for an extra $1500. For that money, IMO you can get exactly the extras you want, probably with cash left over.

Just go for a stock model, unless you can get the Adventure for the price of the stock one...

Correct me if I am wrong ,they all are abs now and no engine guard comes with the adventure model at least it was not on my 2012 650 abs adventure now the DL 1000 Abs adventure might be different. but all have abs since 2011 or 2012.The ABS ,Crash guards,and the black box bags come standard on the 2012 adventure you can buy a suzuki injection molded plastic bottom engine guard ,or a metal sw motech ect .they do not come standard,I think you made a real good buy at zero % I do not go off road on tuff trails where you would need the belly engine guard ,but to lift the bike on the motorcycle jack the flat surface holds the bike nice and steady to work on or change the oil it gives you access to the drain plug and clearance on the oil filter guard to change oil with out removal, so I have been told. I am going to put the sw motech engine guards on my dl 1000 and my dl 650.Enjoy the bike I hope it takes you on many Adventures and rides enjoy it thats what counts.

I was able today to get a new 2013 650 adventure for 8888.00 plus tax and also got 0% for 60 months. You get with the Adventure version a different windshield, boxes, and accessory bar not a bad deal really. No center stand and no 12 volt outlet but otherwise good deal.

I just went through this myself. I wound up buying a leftover 2013 and added crashbars, skidplate, centerstand, and bags for less than the price of the Adventure. I did finance the bike and bought the other stuff outright. I think I got better accessories for the money. Altrider, Moose Racing, Pelican, Happy Trails. The stock windshield works for me.
I'm so happy, I look for excuses to go ride it.

I've got a base model 2013 V-Strom 650 and would buy the Adventure model if doing it all over again.

I didn't think I had a need for bags, hand guards, etc. at first but in the first year of ownership I've already added hand guards and am now looking at bags.

I suggest you look long term at what you plan to do with the bike. I'm finding more and more that I'm looking to add things that came stock on the Adventure model.

While looking at new '13 V-Strom 650's, the dealer had one ADV model as well. Those side cases are HUGE and stick out much further than I expected. I think I could find better accessories in the aftermarket for the $1K price difference.
