Which one to buy?

Well, it's been an interesting road. I've looked and thought about many motorcycles to get back into riding. My last bike (quite a while ago) was a late '80s Harley Low Rider Sport.

When I started this looking process, I was sure I wanted a V Strom. Then bike after bike caught my eye and I kept changing thoughts. Triumph Tiger, BMW 1150gs, BMW R1150R, Bonneville, Honda CB900C, CB1100F, etc. etc. etc.

So I'm back full circle.

I had a line on an '04 DL650 with 25k on it (local) listed for $4200. Emailed back and forth, and now he's saying his son wants it and he'll let me know if that is actually going to happen.

In the meantime, while I thought a Wee was how I was going to go, there are two Vee's available within 1 1/2 hours drive. One is at a dealer, an '03 with 37k, corbin seat, original bags and trunk, upgraded exhaust, for $4400. And, an '04 also with 37k, bags and recent services done (though with some damage from two "low speed drops by the previous owner"). Of those two, I'm obviously leaning towards the '03, assuming it has no damage (dealer is closed today for questions).

I guess my big question is, do I go for the Vee now, or wait for the Wee or another Wee to show up? I'm not wanting to spend more than $5k for a bike right now, so these seemed to fit the bill nicely. (An '07 Bonneville showed up today on CL for $5300, but I don't think it is versatile enough for me, but damn it is pretty).

Forgot to add, I'm 5'11" and about 235#

I paid $3500 for my '04 Wee 3 years ago. The Vee seems to bear a heftier price.
Have you searched " all of craigs list"? my link didn't work. It's called Ad Hunter

A Wee will certainly turn up if you wait and are willing to travel a bit. Your budget will get you a nice one. As already suggested, keep looking on craigslist, on this board's classifieds, ADV's classifieds, cycletrader.com, and eBay.

You'll find one if patient.

All of them are priced well to high. Just keep looking and wait for an other Wee. For $5000 if you lucky you can get even 2011. Certainly 2009-2010.

Smile Wait for the Wee

I owned a 2009 Bonneville, and agree that it is pretty, but the Wee is much more rideable for anything over 100 miles. I test rode a CB1100 and was underwhelmed. The Wee will be WAY different from your Harley, but it is a great bike. I agree with the others that if you are patient you'll find a good used Wee for $5K. Just be patient. It will be worth the wait. Ride safe!

Pulled the trigger yesterday!!

I found an '07 DL650 with 11k miles in perfect condition!

Haven't brought it home yet as it's one problem is bald tires (originals). The bike is about an hour away over a pretty crazy hill, so today I'm calling around to see about getting tires for it sometime this week and having them installed. Then she comes home!

Congrats! For 80/20 tires, I'd recommend Shinko 705s. For street only, go with Michelin PR4 Trails.

I don't know what did you pay for this one, but I'm pretty sure this is a better choice. Congratulations and welcome in the Wee family!

Congrats on your purchase, as you know the Stroms pack a lot of bang for the $$. Few more years we are likely to see the current gen on the used market.

Congrats on picking up the Wee! Welcome back to the saddle man.

My wife and I have been riding a 2007 Boulevard C50 for a few years, it's a great bike, but I really like the idea of the V-Strom. I have always been a dual sport guy (I have a Jeep and a Land Cruiser as well), I like the utility idea of the adventure tourer!

Looking forward to seeing your pics once you get the tires straightened out!
