100K too many miles??

I'm looking at a 2005 with 100K miles. Probably burns oil. Should I run away?
What would the value of something like that be? I found a couple used motors on Fleabay for about $1300.....

I'm thinking the value (having to replace the engine) would be somewhere in the $1,000 area... thoughts?

"Probably burns oil"? Does it smoke or no?

Read up sir, these bikes are built to last. I wouldn't think a new motor would be in order unless major damage has been caused.

First off a 2005 what? 650 or 1000?
Does it have any service records? What maintenance is done or not.
Theres a lot more to it than an engine, but a compression and leakdown test would tell you a lot.
Personally I don't screw around with high mileage bikes like that. I don't see the point as you can usually find low milers for not that much more and I want to ride on them, not work on them.

Garage
no oil

My 2007 Vee with 130,000 burns no oil and runs as well as when it was new. No breakdowns, no hiccups, no hesitation ever at sea level and 12,000ft and lots of places in between. Totally reliable and the performance has been flawless.

I haven't seen it yet - been emailing back and forth with the owner. He lives an hour away. He said to someone else that it does burn a significant amount of oil. So I was figuring the price of another used 10,000 mile motor into the purchase price to figure what I thought it might be worth.

There are several used motors on Ebay for about $1,200. Each with roughly 10K miles. I'm assuming anything between 2004 and 2009 would be a direct bolt-in?
