Did I make a mistake?

I just traded my 09 Kawasaki Versys for a 05 Vee. My Kawi was mine from new and I loved it. However, I was feeling the need for something more comfy and roomy for 2 up riding. The Vee has significantly more miles but seems to be in good shape. I haven't been able to ride the Vee yet as I'm waiting to get to motor vehicles on Monday. Starting to worry if trading my Versys for an older, higher mileage Vee was a good move. The Vee has 41000 on it and I have seen that many members have even higher with no issues. Just tell me I'm not nuts! Thanks.

There are many with over 100,000 miles and one approaching 300,000 miles. It's not so much the mileage as the maintenance. If your bike was properly cared for, the mileage is not going to be a problem.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I bought mine with 42000 last August, it has 61000 now and no issues. I ride it pretty hard and I'm not the best candidate for a regular maintenance award.

That's actually pretty decent mileage for a used Vee.

41k Vee

you live in a marine environment - same as my recently acquired 40k Wee lived - check your forks for corrosion - inside the lowers and outside - my forks have pitting in both locations - I am currently waiting on some minor parts from BikeBandit as I rebuild my forks (I an not replacing the pitted stuff at this time, I just cleaned it up with WD40 and 1500 wet and dry paper) - new forks are too $$ and old ones may be pitted too.

Forks are easy to work on - my only problem is not checking instructions and making a few bonehead blunders.

That mileage means it is broken in, not high mileage.

The mileage, assuming its not been thrashed and has been well maintained, should not be an issue. Whether or not you should have gave up the Versys for it in terms of which you will like better is something only you can decide.
