Question for Vstrom darksiders

I'm new here. Am thinking about a DL1000. I have a v star 950 cruiser and love it. Cruisers don't lean very far before they drag the floor boards so I never reach the limits of my rear car tire. I see on this forum that some use car tires on Vstroms. Can a Vee lean like a sport bike? Can it lean too far for a car tire? I know of a guy in my area that has a cartire on a FJ 1300. I don't see how that works out, but he did it. I like my darkside tire for the traction, braking, wear, ride and all, but I like mountain roads too... Any info would be appreciated.

Another question: how would an insurance lawyer or Judge view a motorcycle using a tire designed for a car? Just curious.

We can have all the Darkside arguments if you want, and talk about synthetic oil and helmet laws too... but I was wondering if any Vstrom riders with car tires can still drag their pegs or not.

I know Vegashotwheeler has the dark side on his Vstrom. I don't think he's slouch when riding. I haven't actually ridden behind him and watched.
Problem with Dark Side questions is the naysayers bray too much and it's hard to get knowledgeable answers.
When I crashed my Wee a couple years ago the matter of tire type never came up.

Im Darkside on my 1000 and I have never drug a peg but I do drag the outside of my boot.
Aftermarket pegs with no feelers and a size 14 boot.
Got just over 6K miles on mine and its not really showing any wear yet.
Love it for the riding I do with it, I built it more for long highway trips.
My 650 is for twisties.
But most people that follow me still have trouble keeping up:biggrinjester:
My input is its not for everyone, but I'll keep it on and keep replacing with a car tire.

Thanks for the info all. And HayesFan may have been just asking, I probably shouldn't have assumed he wanted to argue... You know what they say, don't talk about politics, religion, oil or tires!

the answer is yes, although the CT stability allows me to hang off further with more confidence so I'm not as likely to scrape pegs. I'm running a General Altimax Arctic (28k miles so far, abouty 50% wear)

only negatives I have found are low speed feel, and single track sucks, too much traction, wide footprint catches every imperfection in the wheel track

I went to darkside as winter snow/ice riding experiment that turned out to be successful beyond my wildest imagination, so I'm thinking of doing real crazy things like riding to Deadhorse in winter

to answer your curiosity, the question has been asked of insurance companies and answered. If there are no specific exclusions and its a DOT street legal tire then, your covered

infact, one would be more likely to be not covered for the stock tire that is often loaded beyond its specified DOT weight capacity when your pillon jumps on the back, doesn't take much with a 500 lb bike, a heavy rider & heavy pillon + cargo to get over the measly 716 lb weight rating of the stock tire
