New bike or used bike?

Sold my Harley. Was set on buying a new 2012 dl650 with Explorer package, but I can get a 2009 with only 15000 klm and lots of good add ons for $5k less. Is the 2012 new design significant enough to warrant $5k? Thinking not? looking for insights from the experts.

I really like the new redesign. I looked at pre-2012 V-Stroms but they felt too big, too heavy & too long. I passed on the original strom twice. The new body style & ergos sold me. Now I have two. They are an exceptional bike & an exceptional value.

With Suzuki's zero percent interest & nothing down, for me it was a no brainer. I bought a new one last year & bought another new one this year. Both times I traded-in bikes I rarely rode.

Definitely are some nice things about the 2012, but this bike comes with:
Jesse Odyssey II Luggage
SW-Motech Skid Plate
Givi Crash Bars
Suzuki Center Stand
0.90 Kg/mm Sonic Springs w/ 12.5w Fork Oil
MurphKits Fork Brace
MRA Windshield w/ Madstad Adjustable Bracket
DL1000 Modified Seat (Superior Foam and Gel Pad)
(Includes Original 650 Seat)
DL1000 Suzuki Handguards

and $5000 cheaper than new 2012. Also new front tire.

So is the 2012 that much better? Does the pre 2012 have temperature (silly I know but like that) and gear indicator?
Thanks for inputs

the answer lies in YOUR pocketbook

if you are the kind of guy who insists on being the 1st one to pass gas on the seat & you have the shekels, get the new one

if you are the value minded rider who is willing to do w/o some of the latest factory farkles, until you are SOLD on the model, get the pre-owned unit and upgrade as you can/wish

either way...

shiny side up

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't.

The one main reason I didn't get a used one was because at the time, non had ABS, and ABS was something I wanted to have. Plus I like the new model more.

The used is the better value hands down. If you are thinking of adding those farkles on the 2012, you would be saving yourself an additional $400-800.

For me, any upgrade to the 2012 would not be worth the price difference.

ABS is a must, and of course this 09 has that. Not sure if the 2012 has a better ABS system?

With the accessories you listed and low mileage, I'd jump on the used one. And I'm a '12 owner but only because I couldn't find the deal I wanted on a pre owned especially considering I was planning on financing and the 0% on the new one. Plus it's the first time I've ever owned a bike with 000000 miles.

Plus I found a pretty good buy on the brand new adv model.

Very Nice adventure. The 2012 I was looking at was an Adventure/Explorer? Not sure if they are called different up here? Plus not sure there is 0% financing in Canada? I was paying cash.

Well I am supposed to go pick up the used on Friday. 6 hours away from me

So he has a Michelin Anakee II front tire, pretty new. Rear will need to be replaced, Do you guys tend to go same brand front and back? I figure I will be initially 85% asphalt, 15% light gravel fire road . Thoughts on back tire suggestions?

If you're asking if the new version is 5k more bike, the answer is (IMO), NO. When I bought my 2011 (new) I could have bought a 2012 for about 1k more and it wasn't worth that to me. Opinions will vary though.
