Ottawa to Sydney NS and back

Hey all,
I had planned my vacation time several months ago centered around attending the Cape Breton Bike Rally with some friends and relatives who are local. A few decisions later, and I now find myself wanting to move my travel trailer back to Ontario from Cape Breton. The fall out? I'm concerned that the weight of the Wee plus the tongue weight of my trailer will be too much for my truck. So I'm in the throes of trying to convince my wife to drive the truck and I will follow/lead on the bike. Then, on the way home I can scoot ahead to find decent places for her to park and turn the truck with a 28' trailer on the back.

My roughly planned stops are:

Depart Ottawa, ON (taking the HWY 30 bypass route around Montreal)
Ste Julie, QC
Montmagny, QC
Edmundston, NB
Fredericton, NB (overnight)
Moncton, NB
Truro, NS
Port Hawkesbury, NS
Arrive Sydney, NS

The plan is to stop every 2-2.5 hrs for 30 mins (60 mins at the lunch break) This should work for me on the bike as well as for my wife with the three kids in the truck for pee breaks and her to get a sanity/smoke break LOL. It isn't going to be particularly exciting roads (TC Hwy the whole way until the Canso Causeway), as the need to get from point A to B will be a factor

Do any of the forum members have any suggestions regarding adjusting my scheduled stops? I've done a 600km day before, but the first day is pretty much dead-on 1000kms, so any suggestions of good places to stop rather than, or in addition to my list above would be appreciated. Or if there might be some helpful contacts along the way in the event I run into bike trouble?

The ride didn't go quite as planned, but was still relatively uneventful. I got caught in traffic at the toll booth on the Hwy 30 bypass around Montreal and then again at the Hwy 30/20 interchange. In all I was probably set back by 1:45. Discretion was the better part of valour, so when my wife called on my communicator and suggested we spend the night in Quebec City, I agreed. Interestingly, we ended up in the last remaining room at a hotel that was hosting a HOG ride event. Good group to have a beer with.

Day two we went as far as Fredericton. Mostly boring TransCanada hwy, but the views on the 185 between Riviere de Loup and Edmundston were spectacular. Highly recommended.

Day three I got to Sydney. Again, NB and most of mainland NS (except for Marshy Hope) were pretty boring, but from Harve Boucher to the Canso Causeway and then the Hwy 4 between St Peter's and Sydney were very scenic. Some of my favorite roads.

Sorry I don't have pictures, but I wasn't rolling completely solo. My wife and three kids were in the truck, usually behind me. Any stop with kids would have been 45 mins to an hours, so the snapshots are all in my mind.

In any event, the bike worked great and with the exception of numb bum setting in after about an hour and a half on any given stretch, it was pretty comfortable. In the future I will likely trailer my bike so I can fit my wife's in too. as much as the point a to b travel was interesting, riding together is more fun.

28' trailer for a solo bike? maybe if the trailer is a toy box or such. Aren't they designed to have cargo?
Having hauled off balance cargoes I know the feeling of the tail wagging the dog. Not something I'd want the wife to fight.

I probably wasn't clear in my original post. The trailer I am referring to is my travel trailer that has resided on the East Coast for the last 4 seasons. I rode the bike to Cape Breton, but ended up loading the bike in the back of the truck and hooking on to the trailer to drag it home to Ontario. The intent was to load the truck with the patio furniture that we had out in Cape Breton, but circumstances dictated that I had to drive, so the furniture stayed.

With the exception of some very minor "porpoising" over the largest bumps, my weight distr/sway control hitch did its job. That is notwithstanding my gas mileage... Forget mile per gallon or Litres per 100 Kms, it was more like dollars of fuel per hour! :O
