Are the XT handguards good enough to prevent levers from snapping in a drop ?

I'm wondering if it's worth getting proper metal brace type hand guards.

No and yes. Try the Rocky mountain Tusk guards. They weren't an easy or perfect fit on my 1000 but they do fit and they do actually work.

Even with hand guards you should put Teflon plumbers tape under your perches.

This will allow you to snug down your gear so it stays in place but in the event of a big get off they will spin and absorb any shock.

This will not only save your leavers it can also save your mirrors and master cylinder.
