Discussion Starter #1
Went to head into work today and the old wee won't start. Doesn't even try, no noise of any kind. Kick stand up, in neutral, key in start, 12.9 volts on the volt meter and start switch on. She goes through the check cycle when I turn the key to Start and no error messages. Just hit the starter and nothing. I'm looking for possible suspects to check. I'm still at work and didn't have time to do any investigation before hopping in the cage and heading to work.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Check the connections and switch under the clutch lever.

Wife's Diary:

Tonight, I thought Jim was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long; and I was a little late for our date.

Conversation wasn't flowing, so I thought he was upset at the fact that
I was a bit late; but he made no comment on it. So I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn't say much. I asked him what was wrong; He said, 'Nothing.' I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset..

He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to
worry about it.

On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly, and
kept driving.

I can't explain his behavior I don't know why he didn't say, 'I love you, too.'

When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore.

He just sat there quietly, and watched TV.

He continued to seem distant and absent.

Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15
minutes later, he came to bed.

But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else.

He fell asleep - I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that
his thoughts are with someone else.

My life is a disaster.

You had to have been laughing pretty darn hard when this thread came up! Talk about being handed a "golden egg" to use that on!

That was it the connector just came lose. Reconnected it and it started right up.
Thanks Mr. Wolf!
Same thing happened to me right after I bought the bike. That was before I knew about this website, and it took me 2 days to figure it out. Once I did, I glued it with epoxy so it would never happen again!

If it isn't already, this answer should be a sticky somewhere, says he who was once befuddled and panicked for several seconds by on OFF engine switch.

The hand guard seems specially designed to lever this connection off if you whack it.

Immediately to the left of the clutch lever pivot nut and bolt in the pic. 2009 and later connectors are larger and sturdier.

Again, thank you everyone. I had same issue, checked everything but the dangly bit I unplugged a few minutes before I realized bike would not start.

I completely forgot I did that. :bom_thinking:

If you are feeling evil, it is fun to pull this connection on a friend's bike while out to lunch or at the gas station. Most people never check it...
