My 2002 Vee just wont start. The fuel pump comes on but starter switch does not crank.
I checked the switch, seems ok, it is closing the contact.
What should I look for and How do I trace the starter wire.

Check your kill switch
Check that your key is turned on
Pull in your clutch and attempt to start.

Doesn't work?
Check your side stand switch--wires intact? attached properly?

Still won't start?
Did your clock re-set to 1:00?
If so, you have low battery voltage...check it with a meter.

You can charge your battery, jump it with another 12v vehicle (not started is best). What is the voltage when the bike is running? Does it increase when the engine is rev'ed?

That's a good start...

...well, with luck...

The fuel pump primes fine (audible confirmation), so all the switches are probably good, battery seems to be fine, clock is not reset. Starter switch no response. It closes the contat when pressed, so the problem appears to be in the wiring?

The clutch switch is the usual culprit. The kill switch and side stand switch will display a CHEC at the clock position and prevent the fuel pump from working but the clutch switch will only prevent cranking.

Have you considered Demons?

Little buggers are just -everywhere-...

Maybe an excorcism.

Yes O great princess. Tried that, even wore my feathered headgear and beat ceremonial drums to drive them out. But alas, the little guys are too stubborn. ....

So next I am going to check the clutch switch per GW.

After Janice's method didn't work, I tried the clutch switch per GW's advice, and yep, that's what it was. GW to the rescue again. Thank you GW.
