Hi everyone ^^

been looking into fitting my Nav 5 garmin 660 onto the v-strom xt

anyone done it? if so where did you take the wires to? or do you use the accessory socket, on my lil cousins he spliced his onto a optimate lead not sure if this is the best way or not

Thanks in advance :)

If you have the BMW holding bracket you might have an easy task. In typical BMW fashion these are not exactly like the Garmin 660.....But, if just needing a power circuit I would look only at something that is switched on with the key. These don't draw much current, so you could probably piggy back the heated grip circuit for instance.

Unless Suzuki changed the wiring colors on the new model, white/green will be live with the ignition on and fused by the signals fuse, brown will be live with the ignition on or in (P)ark and fused by the main fuse, white/blue will be live with the ignition on and fused by the 3A power source fuse. The power source fuse is designed to handle a GPS and/or phone and you can connect directly to it. The other wires can handle the additional power but you'll need to add a fuse of no more than 5W to the live lead if it doesn't have one already.

Touratech Germany have some issues (insolvent) so ensure things are OK where you are ?

I run my GPS directly off the battery, I hate having to stop it shutting down every time I stop my bike for fuel, a feed or waiting on mates. :furious:

if the 660 is anything like its predecessors, it continues to run for about 30 seconds after loosing power, and gives you the opportunity to switch to internal battery power till the external power source comes back on

just takes one poke on the screen after you turn the turn the key off

Yep my 350 & 390's are the same and I hate it.

The Zumo cradle will draw 0.02 amps when not in use so for someone like me who rides most weeks of the year hooking directly to the battery is a good option.

I run my Zumo from unswitched power too, but I put an SAE 2 prong plug in the circuit so that I can unplug it for storage and get rid of that small parasitic current draw.

I put an Optimate charger on the battery for a charge cycle once a month in the non-riding months and as a result my m/c batteries usually last a very long time (over 9 years on the original Yuasa in my 2006 FJR).

Same issue

I too have just taken delivery of a new 2017 DL1000 in white. I will probably try to attach my Garmin Zumo 345lm this weekend - I have bought an over the clocks bracket from Givi but does anyone on here have an idiots guide to removing the front fairing / tank and instrument panels so I can route the wires.

The handbook says things like "remove the panel" but doesn't say whether it is a case of pull out, pull forward, pull back, pull up while applying pressure etc etc and I don't want to snap off a tab on my first attempt :)
