Brian has the voice of experience here, and it does seem that anyone actually qualified to respond should have owned (or at least ridden) the various models. But I too would be more interested in the new V2 style headlights, vs the side-by-side dual headlight arrangement. What do you think about modifying your poll?
i have both a Wee2 and Vee2. Hard to say which is more effective. One thing i do like better about the vee2 setup is that the hi and lo are independently adjustable, being two separate bulbs. With the H4's on my 650 I am unable to get both hi and lo beams where I want them, so it's a bit of a compromise.
Very interesting about the V2. That's also a good point about the 650 low vs high- beams regarding "compromise". It becomes even more evident when riding solo vs two-up.
Best lights I've experienced so far were on the FJR1300. Plus on that bike, any passenger weight relative to total bike mass was a lot less, and had virtually no effect on the beam's elevation.
I felt safe on my 2004 Vee with the dual headlights, they provided ample light and did not mimic a street light at night (to opposing traffic), highly visible. The new V2 is back to the single light again and I was worried about it until I added Aux lights, now I think it is better than the Vee. I still need to swap out the yellow stock low beam with a 6000k light to match the Cree Aux lights.
I preferred the dual headlights.
I can add a short story to this, one day on my way to work it was dark, I was waiting to turn left and looked down the road, seemed clear, but I could hear something coming so I waited and sure enough a Harley rolled past, single headlight, all blacked out, rider was wearing all black leathers. The single headlight looked just like the surrounding street lights.
I love the dual headlights. And all the bike I have owned before they always have dual headlights. I tried to ride my friend's bike, which it has one single round headlight, honestly I felt nervous when riding at night.
Sounds like you ride a lot at night, so time to add some LED's to the mix. :fineprint: Too many deer the size of cars here in Ohio, my days of early morning or night riding are pretty much non existent, have just had too many close calls. :frown2:
My V2 is much better, i never could get my 650 adjusted right. I was constanly tinkering with them trying to get them just right. I've never touched them on the v2 they are on the factory setting.
Very important to get the bulbs correctly seated in the headlight assembly. Look from the outside to check that the bases are in place properly, then adjust as you like. If the bulb is cocked in the assembly, they'll never adjust right.
Use the relay and harness to both take the lighting load off the start switch contacts and provide ample voltage to the bulbs on all the 2-headlight bikes. I like Osram Rallye H4 bulbs, 70/65 watt, brighter, good life but a bit shorter than stock, no cheezy blue dye.
Not gonna participate in the survey because I've only ridden the Gen2 Wee. However, as much as I'd love to "trade up" for something more modern with greater fun quotient, I can't bring myself to give up the best stock lighting system ever designed for a motorcycle. And to be fair, the Wee has sufficient fun quotient to get me into plenty of trouble....
