I have an '11 Wee, with recently mounted SW Motech crashbars and engine guard. I have a driver back rest from Dan Vessell. I am looking for highway pegs and have looked at Dan's highway peg system and at a set that attached directly to the engine guard from these guys:

DualSport Plus - Suzuki VStrom DL650/1000 adventure, enduro, dual sport motorcycle parts, accessories and apparel - Happy Trails Highway Pegs

i would like to know what the general opinion is regarding the different mounting type. as i said, I have dealt with Dan for the backrest and he is a great guy to work with and I really like the backrest, but just curious on the different peg systems.
any and all opinions appreciated.
thanks.

I have the same highway pegs and engine guard - ordered through Happy Trails - for my 11 Wee.

I haven't mounted the engine guard yet since I have to torque the sidestand bolts to 75 ft/lb and don't think the wife is big enough to steady the bike while I do it. So will mount the pegs when I mount the skid plate in the next couple of days. Mounted the engine guard but not the skid plate and highway pegs yet.

They look sturdy and well built though.

Look forward to other's reviews on the product. Thanks for asking - look forward to hearing what folks say about them.

The spec is 72.5lb-ft and that's already too high for the size bolt used. A hardened bolt that size should be torqued to no more than 61.5lb-ft. Heat will help get it off as it has thread locker applied. I would clean the threads on the bolt and the stand mount, apply thread locker and torque to 50lb-ft if I was doing the job.

I had these pegs when I ran an amoto skid plate with my Givi bars. No real complaints. I recall they put my shins very close to the crash bars and touching the two would be an eye opener. Have DVs chrome version now (recommended for taller riders, I'm 6'4"), and other than being chrome, work well for me. They are longer and give a greater sense of security to me than the HTs. I road about 900 miles a couple weeks ago and used them extensively to prop my foot up as I had some painful fasciitis problem in my right foot and the threat of a gout flare up. Did all my shifting with my heel, and the pegs were a great relief.

Thanks for the posts so far.

Lordsmoke, can you say exactly what style DV peg system you have, please? I have looked on his website and dont see a chrome set. I don't really want chrome but i thought i'd check them out as you say they are good for taller riders (I'm 6'5).
thanks,
