And for those concerned with disposal of used batteries, already recognition that they are a valuable resource:

Downside is, they can't immediately recover rare minerals to manufacture new batteries. Although much of the battery research is directed towards new chemistries that do not require those rare minerals.

A pretty interesting site to watch, if you are thinking of getting into EV's:

Maybe this one:

Darn near perfect for a teenage-driver school car, perhaps. Top speed limited, modest acceleration. Plenty of range to get to school or work. Cheap enough that the inevitable dings and scrape won't infuriate. Low maintenance, low operating costs, likely highly reliable. Add in a tracking app, so you know where the car is, and what it is doing, and I bet you could sell a bunch.

Probably doesn't meet US safety specs, which would drive up the price at least somewhat. But at least pointing to the possibility of cheap electric cars.

Remember the original VW Beetle? Underpowered, small, a bit primitive, low performance. But cheap, and sold like hotcakes. Maybe something like this will be the next Beetle.
