Well I've just started a weeks holiday and we would like to do at least one overnighter on the bikes, The problem is,where to go.
We live in Central Victoria (between Ballarat and Bendigo) and we're not sure which direction to head! I know this must seem stupid, but we're not sure if we should head north or towards the coast. Any sugestions would be a great help

Go down around Gippsland.

Or head down to the coast around Warrnambool and the GOR, go via the Grampians on the way.

And make it more than a one nighter.
I'd love to make it more than a one nighter, but we are leaving the 17 & 14 year olds home :-|
The last time I was on thr GOR, we almost had an accident!
Going by the weather (we're still a bit soft) I think we will head northward. I'll let you know where we end up

2 kids?

2 bikes?

Sounds like the makings of a "trip to remember" for the kids.

My kids used to love weekends away with the 4WD & the trail bikes.
Never had the opportunity to take them away for a trip on the road bike as the "now ex." didn't have a bike of her own.

They used to say they wished they could do road trips on the back of the bike.

Read again. The kids are being left at home.
Yeah, but .....
I think Ock was implying--Why leave the kids at home?
If it's only a one nighter, it could be something special for all four.

Anyway, I don't know the circumstances and I don't know the area all that well but if it's not too cold still, then my suggestion is to include Bright and surrounds in your ride. I still have flashbacks of the terrific Strom gathering at this pretty little town this year, the wonderful biking roads in the area and my solo ride up to the old chalet on Mt. Buffalo.

Two or four, wherever you go SG66, have a memorable and safe ride.

Mine are currently 14 and 17 and they would have a much better time at home by themselves without their parents doing things like telling them when to eat and at the same time the parents would really enjoy the concept of being childrenless for the maybe first time in 17 years.

I'd vote for letting the kids learn to be adults and the adults reconnecting with each other as something other than mum and dad.

One night?
MT Hotham area or somewhere like Jindabyne and back.
The run into Jindabyne at the end of an 8 hour ride is NOT something that I would advise to do late in the afternoon .

Personally try riding over to 90 mile beach or Lakes Enterance would be a better idea IMO.

As for kids left at home or not that is something only the parents can work out .

You know your children and generally it is NOT your child that causes the problem it's friends or more often friends of friends? that cause problems .

It also depends on where you live relatives etc .

Well Guys, the weather put an end to any plans we had of a naughty night out :) !
With storm warnings and gale force winds we decided on a couple of day trips with the boys. We are very lucky as they still like to go to different things with us. We go to a lot of car and bike events that are happening around our neck of the woods.
Hopefully we will meet up with you guys in Bingarra in March ( I hope they renew my contract at work!) :)

We should have done this a few years ago. Lachie (17) is about 6'2" and taller than his Dad, Tom (14) is almost 5'5", same height as me! :yesnod:
I don't think we could handle them on the back of the wee with gear as well.

4WD, trailer and some dirt bikes to go play in the bush on weekends for now then. :fineprint:

They will both soon be able to ride on the road themselves.

When Lachie gets his learners you can go with four of you on three bikes.
The luggage can be spread across the three and Tom can pillion on the back of Drew's bike.

Tom already has plans for us when he gets his licence, the four of us are putting the bike on the Spirit and riding around Tassie, looking forward to that one if it comes off.

Tassie is on my list to do as well.

I will have to do two trips though.
I want to go on the bike, she wants to go in the 4WD [before you state the obvious, no we can't take both- ten years here and she has not got around to getting an Aussie licence yet, takes the train to work every day and has no need for a licence].

This was in on of the ARR magazine's this year, it's on our list too :)
For the Motorbike Enthusiast
we would use this place as a starting point to do the rest of Tassie
