hello all,

i am a brand new member here and have some questions.

i am the parts manager at a suzuki dealership and am somewhat new to the adventure bike world. i have helped several of my customers build KTM 950 adventures but i have not had occasion to build any v-stroms until now. i have 2 guys that want 1000s totaly loaded up with accessories.

i should preface the following by saying i am a forum veteran and i have dome some searching for these answers but have found little info.

so, i have 2 maters i need to address.

1) has anyone done any kind of a spoke wheel conversion? most other adventure bikes have spoke wheels and i would like to try to adapt some to this bike. yes i know suzuki spent untold engineering time and money deciding to use aluminum wheels. but, for several reasons i would like to try this. any ideas?

2)i have looked at several sources for side bars/crash guards and have a compatibility question. will the touratech bars that go up arround the fuel tank mount ALONG WITH any other bar that goes on lower? maybe the twisted throttle bars? (i realize this might be a very easy question but it is late at night and i dont have a bike at home to look at, nor can i see from the pictures that i have access to what mounting points the bars might use.

finally, as a guy that spend his days looking for cool stuff for motorcycles that i can sell to customers, i would love to hear any ideas for your favorite cool stuff or mods. obviously it can have a v-strom bent.

thanks to all who respond!!!

You mean you'd want a pair of bars like (Givi I think?) that are up around the tank more, AND you want another set that are down more? I have SWMotech that are down a little lower. But I doubt you will ever be able find two set that will fit together because they'd use the same mounting bolts.

If you are welder or know a fabracator you could have some custom bars made, or, start with either Givi or Motech bars, and then add more metal on to them to get the look and protection you want. :) Thats your best bet.

If the guy wants mods on his bike, I think the basics are crash bars, centerstand, maybe better handle bars and a windshield. Then maybe add luggage racks, top case, maybe side cases if he's going to do a lot of long distance, more comfy seat, grip puppies. You said he wanted it loaded with stuff! :D

?Grip puppies?

otherwise all the ideas sound like things i will do for these guys

thanks all
Yeah, Grip Puppies are pretty sweet. They're basically foam things you put over your stock grips to make them bigger and more comfortable. :)

I am 100% sure that in the stromtrooper or vstrom.info gallery, there is a yellow v-strom with the spoke wheels installed.

I know the Aprilia Caponord uses the same size wheels/tires as the strom, and they have tubeless spoke wheels (like the BMW GSA uses) - maybe you could check to see if they use the same axle size and bolt patterns as the Strom. Please let us know what you find.

I don't know of any two engine guards that can be used together - maybe a engine guard/frameslider combo would work? (not sure what you're going for here)

Take care,
