My first V-strom (recently purchased) is a 2013 DL-650A with 25,000 miles. It was ridden primarily on highway and by looking at the bike not a lot of bad weather. I am planning a 9,000 mile trip to Alaska and had been reading deusexmaxima tread on preparing a bike for a trip. I have changed wheel bearings on dirt bikes so I have felt bad bearings.
Checking the rear wheel the bearing area looks clean and dry with wheel off. The bearings feel ok turning them with my finger. When I checked the sprocket hub bearing it does not feel rough but it not as good as wheel bearing. It just seem a little off.
My question is... my wheel bearings seem ok but Alaska conditions and the milage on my V-strom, should I change them? If I do change them I will use SKF bearings (or similar)

With 25K on the bike, worry as you may. I got mine with 23K miles and it's 96+K miles and the wheel bearing still feel fine.

Wheel bearing life depends entirely on motorcycle storage and cleaning. If the PO garaged the bike and did not use a pressure washer they will most likely last many more years. If you found no tight spots all should be O.K.
The real check is to wiggle the top of the tire with the wheel fitted to the bike. You will easily "feel" any slack if there is any. That is the time to replace them.

Appreciate your input. Yes I did try to wiggle the wheels with the bike lifted. As I said with the wheel off the area that is visible near the bearing does not show signs of water/corrosion. Bike was garaged. Glad to here stock bearing can go 90K+.

I assume the sprocket hub bearing will last as long as the wheel bearings.

When next you have your V-Strom wheels off the bike, stick your fingers in the bearing axle holes and spin the wheel (roll it on the ground if you must and lift). You can feel immediately when a bearing is notchy / binding / gritty. This was the advice that Greywolf gave me a few years ago.
