I've settled on a Wee as my next bike and I've been actively searching listings online and locally. My question is what is considered high mileage for a DL650?

My first bike was a bit of a fixer upper that seemed like it was in pieces more than on the road. It was fun to ride and good to learn on but I never had a lot of confidence in the longevity of it. Rightfully so I suppose since that bike has since died!

With my next bike I don't want to have to deal with a lot of major maintenance and I want it to have confidence that it will last for the next 3-5 years.

I appreciate your help!

Anything less than 100k and you will be fine, heck anything over 100k and you would probably still be fine.

Thanks for the input.

I know the Wee is a very dependable bike and has a great track record for high miles and low maintenance.

Anyone else with high mileage experience - good or bad?

I'm w/ big b on the 100K is fine view. Whatever the mileage, grill the owner about the oil he used, if the view window ever leaked or needed to be replaced. Then figure out if his responses seem deceptive or genuine. I bought my 650 new last nov, but have read tons of high mileage posts on this site. It's all in the maintenence. I would have bought a used one if I could have found one @ the time.

What?? This is the second post like this from this guy I've come across in the past 5 minutes. Forgive my ignorance here, but is this how the spammers work?

Yes. We get a Chinese spammer replying to a number of posts almost every night.

Typically high mileage varies for area to area because of riding seasons, What is considered to be high mileage in North Eastern Pennsylvania definately would not be considered high in Florida. So based on my geographical area I would say keep it under 50K and you will have plenty of life left.

High mileage bikes

Your Wee, as well as all other water cooled bikes, are built on the same principal as cars. Internal combustion, reciprocating, water and oil cooled. With proper maintenance, and ridden by an adult mentality, these machines can go well beyond 100,000 miles without any problem. I have a friend that got 370,000 out of a Concours and when he pulled the motor, #3 was slightly low on compression but still ran well.

Do your oil changes at regular intervals, keep clean air filters, good chains and sprockets on it and fix the little things that pop up along the way. You'll be fine.

Yeah, assuming regular oil/filter changes and other basic maintenence, you'll wear out before this bike does.
