Question,How well does a DL650 handle in the rain on pavement with the stock tires on it or for that matter with a better set put on after the stock ones are shot? Also what is the first thing most of you changed after breaking the bike in? The seat, the pipe, the windscreen, bars etc.? Thanks

stock trailwings handle reasonbly well in wet while they are still new, but loose their wet capabilities as they wear quicker than most other tires

I'd say with the first 25%-30% of wear, you can ride in rain with confidence,

watch out for painted pavement and tar snakes,

any bike will handle in the rain as good as it's tires

No problem

Having ridden the wee some 400 miles in the the last 10 days, only one of them definitely sunny and dry, I can say it handles just fine with the stockers in rain and wet. Today was sub 50 and plenty rainy and I felt perfectly confident in the tires. I compare this to a winter of commuting on a ninja with stockers and then Metzler Lasertecs. Then again, we're still under 2k on the stock tires. (I'll be watching as the mileage goes up)

As far as changes? Waiting on the Madstad as we speak. I made it three days before I broke down and made the order.

I've been enjoying the wet roads on my 'strom... But I've only put on 1900 kms so far, most of that in the rain though.

As for farkles, I first added the Givi side bars and hard tail case, then transferred over the GPS bike mount and recently got the Madstad bracket. Next, either hand guards or center stand, maybe even a power socket for me to hook up power to the GPS.

The stock tires are excellent rain tires. I'm running a Metzeler Tourance on the back now, but last year I rode for 500 miles in the rain, on the stock tires, in one day. I was pleasantly surprised by how well planted the stock tires felt at 70 mph in pelting rain.

In fact, I was so impressed that despite installing a Tourance on the rear, I bought another TW for the front.

As for what I replaced on the bike first...

I got rid of the stock screen and installed a Suzuki of Europe sport screen, very soon after buying the bike. It gets rid of any buffet issues, and looks better than any other screen option, in my opinion...

Ridden all winter

Commute daily rain or shine. The original tires were great at first, then slowly started sliding more and more. Switched to anakees with insane amounts of wet grip, and have ridden through downpours, hailstorms, and normal rain with no problems. The softer compound tires seem to grip better but you sacrifice treadlife. Overall very happy with the anakees. Try a pair.

Off-topic, but I must say that's a good looking bike in red with the lowers added.

Oh, yeah - I also found the stock TWs to work pretty well, although the Tourance rear was even better - I think I also actually ended up putting another front TW on my Vee, too.

What doesn't work well in the rain: Pirelli Scorpion S/Ts, especially after putting 13,000 km on them. I must say, though, the rear has actually held up very well - I thought it was getting kind of squared off rather quickly, until I actually figured out how long it had been on there. The front doesn't look like it will ever wear out, but as I say its grip in cool, wet conditions, well, sucks.
