Hey everyone,
I have had my DL1K7 for a just over a week now. It has 800 miles on it already goes in for service this week. Yesterday me and My son got to go out for our first real ride on the bike. We were exploring State Parks for future camping trips.
The ride started at 9:00 AM on RT. 44 north in Jersey Shore Pa. We follwed 44 north through pine creek area till we came to a turn off for Hyner view and Hyner Run State parks 8 Mile jaunt to the two parks Hyner run offers camping not the greatest though. The Hyner view is just that a lookout at the very top of the mountain where they hang glide from. From there we took a forest rode back to 44 (5 miles dirt road but not bad at all). Continued up 44N to Oleona Pa. Where there is a realy expensive place to get gas and there pumps need claibrated. Took 144S to Ole Bull State Park. Another real nice Park But we didn't like the camping setup.( we tent camp there was not really any tent sites.) From there we continued sout on 144 to cross forks where we took township rd 416, another dirt road north to Short RunRd north back to 44N. Followed 44N to Cherry Springs State Park. Nice little park, they have an astronomy field where you can stay over night and set up telescopes and such. even little domes to rent to set up in. Camping at the park is primitive at best. From there we took SR 2002 east to Lyman Run Road North to the park. Looks like it will be a beautiful park. It is under contsruction right now and is closed. We followed Lyman run rd ( this road after the park is absolutey terrible, it is a forest road that is under construction. Has signs posted about 3 miles in caution rough road may require 4WD. DUH. a little late for that.Follwed thist road to thomspons road north just as bad. Dry Clay dirt with big chunks of yellow shale. Took this rd to rte 6 Finally some pavement.) <--- Will be skipping that whole section next time and going straight up 44 to rte 6.
Went west on 6 till I took 44S to Long Toe Rd South another dirt road but not bad. Followed this to Prouty Place State Park. This is just a primitive campground there is a hand pump well and thats it. Followed SR 3003 sw until we got to Rte 872 south. Followed 872 south to Sinnemahonning State Park. Nice park but it is so big that you almost have to drive from section to section if you camp there. They hve a nice lake, and they have a wildlife observation area to watch Elk and other animals. From there we Continued down 872 S to RT 120 East towards Renovo. Followed this till a turn off for Kettle Creek State Park. This was probably the nicest of the parks we went to. They have a lake with a beach swimming area lots of picnic areas and they have two camping areas that are pretty nice. And we got to see a bald Eagle flying around.
We headed back down to 120 (8 miles) stopped for gas in Renovo and proceeded to drop the bike on its side. Combination of a 130lb 13yr standing standing on the footpeg to get off while you are putting the key in the gas tank not good. Was able to catch it for the most part and just set it down lightly. Bumped the mirror and scuffed the hand guard. No major. Kid was scared to death though. He thought I said ok but it was the guy at the gas station. No harm No foul and we continued on our way. Followed 120 all the way back to Lock Haven. Nice twisty road they call the Snake Path. from there we took the highway back to linden cuz it was already 6:00 Pm. All in all 9hrs 265 miles of back mountain and dirt roads and loads of fun and memories spent with the boy. I will try to get a link posted to pics later.
The trip could be made shorter and quicker by just doing the 44N to 6W to 872 South to 120E to 150N. Could probably do the whole trip on one tank of fuel this way also. those dirt roads were burning up the fuel pretty good and I never left it get below 3 bars for any length of time. Not knowing where the next fuel stop would be.

Just thought I would share this ride with you guys if anyone would like to do it some weekend let me know. we will get together and ride.

Sounds like a nice little ride. I live outside of State College in Centre County. We do have a lot of good riding around here. I know what you mean about tent camping these days. So many of the state parks are being redone in ways that unless you setup your tent on the asphalt parking pad there's really nowhere to set it up. It's a shame, but I guess they need to cater to the giant RV crowd to keep the money rolling in. God forbid you go camping without your satelite television and lazy-boy recliner.

I've been up there twice in the last three weeks. Once on my Wee and once on my sportbike. No dirt roads on those rides though. I need to explore the dirt roads off 144 south of Renovo and maybe the stuff off the Quehanna Hwy. Makes for a 400 mile day from Pittsburgh.
